Does anyone feel that some of the fee might go back to the Liebherr estate...as they basically funded our promotion from League 1 ?
If they wanted to recoup the money, i'm not sure that we would have bought Cork or de Ridder this summer
Glad that saga is over, the key now for us is that the money is reinvested in some quality first team players, I have faith in Cortese it will be but we all remember the Lowe years...
I agree, if they wanted to recoup the money I think they probably would have tried to sell the club about a year ago
I might be wrong but I thought I read somewhere that they were planning on re-couping it one day...like I said though, might be wrong.
I suspect if that's gonna happen, they'd wait for the big pay day, promotion to the Premiership. There is a 5 year plan and it is right on schedule.
True....who thinks we need another winger in now?? Top priority still has to be a centre half, add maybe a striker, and a winger and we should be set...would like to save some transfer budget for January to see how we are doing.
Arsenal Football Club is delighted to announce that Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain has joined the Gunners on a long-term contract for an undisclosed fee. Oxlade-Chamberlain, 17, joins Arsenal from Championship side Southampton, where he made 44 first-team appearances during his long association with the south coast club. Joining the Southampton Academy at the age of seven, Alex quickly excelled through the ranks of the club's successful youth set-up, making his first team debut in March 2010 at the age of just 16 years and 199 days. In doing so, Alex became the second youngest ever appearance maker for Southampton after Theo Walcott. A quick, attacking player, Oxlade-Chamberlain played an integral role in Southampton's promotion campaign from League One in 2010/11, making 41 appearances and scoring 10 goals in the season. His impressive performances earned him a place in the PFA League One Team of the Year 2010/2011, voted by his fellow professionals. Alex, who can operate on either wing or as an attacking central midfielder, has also represented England at Under-18, Under-19 and Under-21 levels. After sealing the deal to bring the young prospect to Emirates Stadium, Arsène Wenger said: "We are delighted that Alex has decided to join us. "He is an exciting young player who will provide us with creativity and offensive quality. Alex is a versatile player who can play in a number of positions. He can play as an attacking centre midfielder, or wide left and right. "Alex is a perceptive passer of the ball and has a great understanding of the game and looks to be a very good team player." Thank god that's over, now we can move on. Didn't have a grudge about Bale and Walcott, but Oxo's antics left a bad taste in my mouth. OS making big deal about the value so that we know NC fought his corner (said to be about 12 million on Sky). Don't know whether there is a sell-on clause, but doubt Arsenal will be shipping him out anyway. Markus set up a fund repayable to him (or his estate) interest-free sometime, but whether that will be paid now so we are debt free I don't know. Any business would be daft to pay back an interest-free loan early. Suspect we may spend some now and use rest to offset future costs. Remember there are lots of costs (wages etc) that's not as obvious as buying a player. As soon as there were rumours we were splashing the cash, I thought Oxo had gone.
