SNIAW, mate, don't tell me you have just realised Wenger can't take a defeat on the chin?! <yikes>

I had expected that exact response as soon as the game had ended and he never failed to deliver!

    We know mate :)

The thing that baffles me is that he still remains adamant that Arsenal don't need any signings! Your defence has been dire for years and years, nowhere near what it was in the invicibles reign! I don't even think it's the individual players' problem, it's Wengers approach to defending, one he used to be admired for. With teams playing more in the final third with packed midfields, teams can't afford to play high lines and simply pass their way out of trouble at the back and often requires someone to hoof it into row Z. Wenger won't have any of it though!

If only he could call upon someone who's known for their ability to coach a defence, as well as being extremely fond of Arsenal.
Shame there's nobody like that about that hasn't had a job for a while, eh?

Vermaelen and Koscielny are very good, up there with the best in the league, it's just Wenger's defensive approach.

You support man City's feeder team, who have choked every time they've been on the verge of winning something, who don;t even play on the same side of the river Woolwich is on, and you post that comment?

Nurse, they're out of bed again!

I thought the same, but he has changed my mind this season at times. Maybe I took it far by saying up there with the best but my point was, Wenger has a ****e approach to defending!

Well put. Also the amount of injuries you've had in defence doesn't help either, but that's why Wenger should've signed more world class and less piss poor!

Most clubs have had injury problems at the back - MUPLC and Spurs especially - but they've been far better defensively than Arsenal.

Arsenal play in a system several of their players aren't confident, or experienced, of playing in. Van Persie is experienced in it and it shows, but in central midfield and at the back there's a lot of uncertainty - hence they get overrun by teams that can exploit this.

The other thing that I think's been a problem is Song.
He's given far too much freedom for someone that's supposed to be a holding player.
When your defence is depleted heavily by injuries and struggling to cope, you really need someone to protect the back four.

Not convinced that the system suits the players either, to be honest.

Song's a good player Drogs, but he was more effective a couple of years ago, in my opinion.
He was less involved in their attacking play, but more likely to disrupt opposition attacks.
Which would you prefer from a holding midfielder?

He's a good player, don't get me wrong. In the PL, the only player I'd rather have is probably Parker and in terms of potential I think our Romeu! In the world, Busquets is the best for me but he's a total ****. Then Alonso, Mascherano and maybe Van Bommel if he wasn't the wrong side of 30.

I get the feeling that Song would probably excel if he was playing alongside a deep-lying playmaker.
Perhaps Wenger sees Wilshere in that role and that's his long-term plan?
Can't see how that fits in with the current system, though.

I think Song would be good alongside a player like Parker or Tiote, someone who doesn't mind sitting there, doing all the dirty work and mopping up.

Or like you said, alongside a DLP, like Alonso!

They need a big motivation boost, like a " come on boys lets go out their and ****ing have it ", it don't help Wenger blaming the clear penalty decision for the loss because most of the players would think " we probably would of won if it wern't for the ref so we'll carry on and do this the next game and we'll definitely win ". He should be saying something like " We got outplayed by the better team on the day but we'll be back next game 10 times better ". And apart from Wilshere & Persie i don't think anyone else in that team is world-class, they have the potential to be ( chamberlain ) but it's potential which is a waiting game.
Apart from RVP and Wilshere the team resembles a 5th place - 10th place team in my opinion, your in the same situation as liverpool, you need some quality, A world class striker, a world class left back, and two world class midfielders ( Possibilities = Jesus Navas, Gustavo, Ganso,Pato/Benzema, Hazard, Pedro, Can't think of any decent left-backs available at the moment )

A defensive midfielder getting eight assists is good for a fantasy football team, but if they're playing in an advanced position in order to get those assists it's not going to help if they lose the ball and the opposition counter.
