Agreed, we should get behind our team, but Arsene/the board should not take our loyalty for granted. I have always said football fans (myself included unfortunately), are not the sharpest tool in the box. We complain, whine, whinge about our team, the results and yet we never stop supporting! I remember leaving the Emirates after the last home game of the season (2-0 loss to Aston Villa I think), and a mini-fan protest about the proposed 6.5% rise in ticket price. I was muttered to myself, don't think I will be renewing the season ticket I share with my brother. Guess what.....ticket renewed without a whimper! I think it is a no-brainer when you are at the Emirates, it's no use berrating your own players/manager (that is why we have forums like this, or so I thought until yesterday...... when threads deemed not to follow the party line were merged/deleted/closed or even contributors barred.....). Still on the subject of booing your OWN team or singling out your own player for abuse, I wonder what it was like in the past, as I have only been following Arsenal since the late 80s and went to a handful of games before the Wenger revolution.... I wonder what impact programs like x-factor/pop-idol/ i am a celeb has on fans sense of empowerment? They feel they can hound players out of clubs now....... last season it was Eboue, this season it is Arshavin.... wonder who next?
Since we last one a trophy we've gone from 4-4-2(2005) to 4-5-1 (2006-2008) to 4-3-3(2007-2009) to 4-2-3-1(2009-2010) to 4-2-1-3 (this season) Its a good thing Wenger does'nt ever change his formation.
Do we have the players for a 442? I don't know about you but I don't trust Walcott, Arshavin, Park and Chamakh to do the roles required if we played that way.
TheBear And every time we played that formation against every team in every situation, NEVER changing it. Is a formation meant to last 2 seasons ? I guess you don't see the stupidity in playing a formation irrespective of the opposition or personnel available to you do you ?!
CYM - an avid gullible Grauniad reader? that just about sums him up. Leftie, striking, house-burning, nationalist sheep fancier. the Beano has more meaningful political comment.
