Well yes. Off the pitch. And I agree. I just mean the general attitude of footballers to officials and the media annoys me alot.
I did mean football in general but particularly international football. It just doesn't seem like the same amount of effort is put in compared to team rowing, for example. Those lads have trained four years for one 5-minute race and a medal. We have footballers that shag around every weekend, put in some drab performances and still collect a weekly pay-check. And ofcourse, this won't change but I do feel it is wrong. These Olympic games have seen relative unknowns raise their game and become international superstars and champions at their individual discipline. At the moment, football feels very predictable and doesn't have that air of excitement. I didn't watch the Euro final because the outcome was inevitable. In these Olympics, the football was slow and painful. I found myself switching over to basketball, a sport I have never watched in my life. Club level is where all the quality football is being played, these days. A lot of international matches are tedious affairs.
The problem I have with club football is its a business. lets face it, arsenal are going to win most their games in the league because their wage bill is FAR larger than alot of the other clubs in the league. This is even more exagerated in spain and with the likes of city, united and chelsea. Is that a sport? I dunno, it kind of sucks. At least international football isnt won by the side with the most fans and the biggest check book. Yes investing in infrastructure and having a large population helps. But it doesnt just automatically present you with a pick of elite players like big club sides. I am with you. I watched no football at this olympics. And I am amazed by the talent and dedication of the swimmers, athletes, gymnasts and others. These should be our role models. Mo Farah runs his arse off every single day for 4 years all for this one race. Thats dedication. Its nice to see these people celebrated. Its not the footballers fault that they get all the praise and adulation I suppose. Mo farah and Ennis win by dedicating their whole lives to training and sport. Man city win because their owner is a billionaire.
Arsenal4life has it completely worked out and I agree with him 100% The only thing I will add is that it's not the footballers fault it's actually our fault.
This. Mo Farah runs 120 miles every week, it's so good to see his and others' dedication pay off. Although I would add that it wasn't just for one race, he has a good chance of a medal in the 5000 metres too!
We're all excited about the Olympics at the moment especially after seeing what happened last night but come August 18th we wont give a **** about sports like athletics.
When England won the Rugby WC in 2003 a lot of media hacks were predicting that rugby would overtake football in popularity. It's never happened
