Lol at going out to S.Korea on penalties. Team GB football team were never going to achieve anything. Not even remotely dampens the success of the true inspirational people like mo, Greg and jess. Footballers hmmm why are they paid so much money again? Oh yeah the culture in the uk that makes them into sudo hero's. Rubbish!

Also, Aaron showed some balls to step up first after the first two dodgy pens. Buried it in the shoot-out.

Me too. His shooting was horrible at the end of extra time. His confidence would have been very low.

I think he needed to protect the track from her shoes. It destroys the moment somewhat, but you can't risk the track being damaged for other athletes. If someone trips over in the 100m final we'd be asking why they let her on the track.

Anyone abit disillusioned with football at the moment? When compared to the excitement of these other events, it really does pail in comparison. Especially when the British footballers are such perennial under-achievers. I've probably watched more hours of olympic gymnastics than I have football.

    Stole this from Ja.

Greg Rutherford is the Great Grandson of Jock Rutherford, who holds the record for being the oldest person to play a competitive game for Arsenal. Cym probably remembers Jocks Arsenal debut. <whistle>

    Arsenal in his blood!

Just read from Arsenal.com that Mo Farah is an Arsenal supporter! My new favorite athlete (he was already anyway!)

Footballers are overrated.. In this country at least. The determination and will to win I have seen from GB athletes is inspiring. The media have duped most of the country into thinking guys who get 160k a week for kicking a ball aaround are the real hero's of GB. Naaaaaa mate!

Yeah Mo is a massive Arsenal fan, sort of takes the shine off it a bit! ;-)
I agree with you Bobby Pires that football is sh*t in the Olympics and shouldn't be there. It sort of dampened the mood breaking from the track and field to that, they really shouldn't have bothered! Did anyone really care that we lost?!

Yep, what a day. SIX gold medals in one day. To but that in context, we won one gold medal in the whole of the 1996 Atlanta Olympics. <yikes>

Ramsey played pretty well today, Sturridge was shocking though.

Well done to all british athletes today too, especially the Gooners.

They get that much because they are able to fill 60K seats twice a week, they have a commercial value, nothing to do with being heroes... whereas most Olympic athletes are heavily subsidized.

Olympics is "the" event for most of these other sports whereas it means nothing for football.

Why is everyone slagging football off? Football>>>>>Olympics. It's too big for the olympics, they should stick to the traditional sports like Running, jumping, running further, rowing, shooting, riding horses(ok, i don't get why that is an olympic sport)

Wow, yes exactly what I have been thinking.

I wasn't even looking forward to the olympics. I love football more than anything and watch every match I can. But yes, I kind of think this olympics has opened my eyesm to football in general (maybe you just mean olympic football its not clear?).

I got the same thing after the rugby world cup. They didnt piss and moan to the ref every five seconds. Didnt fling themselves to the floor and werent all utter ****s to the media (i.e. their link with the fans) and werent all just arragant pricks who think they are above everyone else.

The olympics is yet another step. I think it is wrong that we champion poeple like frank lampard. At the end of the day lampard has never been top 20 players on the world. Yet he gets all this money, attention and praise on a regular basis. Its utter bs. These olympians work their socks off for nothing except for every 4 years when they receive some celebration of their talents.

And in the olympics we actually have people who ARE the quickest, strongest or fittest in the world. And they should be celebrated well above some footballer who isnt even close to that level.

Screw football in a way, they could learn alot from our olympians about to handle yourself with the media, in the sport itself and in training I suspect.

The behaviour of some of the England players in the Rugby World Cup was a disgrace. If footballers had behaved like that it would have caused a debate in Parliament

In Rugby they can have a huge punch up and it would not get much of a reaction from the media. If that same punch up happened in football, then that would be front page news.
