It's clear now that Fabregas has ended up at second choice Chelsea, that should have stayed with Arsenal, but the other gave their best years to Arsenal and we have definitely got the better of those deals.

Yeah except I think Vermaelens best days are ahead of him.

As a CB he is coming into his peak.

Blow for Barcelona as Vermaelen is sidelined with thigh injury

Just days after the Belgian passed a medical as part of his transfer from Arsenal, the Catalans have disclosed that the defender is struggling with a muscular problem

Barcelona have announced that Thomas Vermaelen will be out of action for an indefinite period of time due to a thigh injury.

The Belgium international passed a medical at the weekend before completing his €19 million transfer from Arsenal, but the Catalans have now revealed that the 28-year-old will not be ready to make his debut for now following his World Cup exploits.

Vermaelen made two appearances for Marc Wilmots' men at this summer's tournament in Brazil, where Belgium made it to the quarter-finals.

"The first-team player Thomas Vermaelen has a thigh injury in his right leg that he sustained in June during the World Cup," a statement on the club's official website reads.

"The player will undergo physiotherapy. His return to regular training action depends on the evolution of the injury."

Vermaelen signed a contract with Barcelona until the summer of 2019 on Sunday.

The Camp Nou side previously secured the services of Marc-Andre ter Stegen, Claudio Bravo, Jeremy Mathieu, Alen Halilovic, Ivan Rakitic and Luis Suarez.

Wish him nothing but the best. These were his words to fans on Facebook:

“After 5 years at Arsenal – and the last 2 years a proud captain too – it’s time for me to move on,” he said.

“The club, the team, the fans, the manager, the staff and other employees, you all made me feel at home at both the training ground and the Emirates Stadium. It was a wonderful time and I feel blessed I’ve had the opportunity to be a part of such a great club.

“There have been so many wonderful games and experiences, with lifting the FA Cup as an absolute highlight. I would like to thank you all for your support, it was a huge honour to be a Gunner!”
