You may be right, but we won't be accepting £25m for Modric or £20m for Bale. In your opinion that is what they are worth, but that is only relevant if we are trying to sell, and we aren't.

You miss the point. They are both still under lengthy contracts. As I put on another thread, even if Levy decided to sell, which I very much doubt, you either pay his valuation, or you don't sign the player. Simples...

With their contracts being so long that means you have to pay a lot over what they are worth, Tottenham are in control so if you don't pay what they want you won't get them.

Tottenham are in control of nothing. In London you are surrounded by far larger clubs with bigger gate receipts and far bigger commercial income. In terms of income generation you are losing out badly.

You have no CL football (hence no CL income) and you can only offer the CHANCE of getting back there. That is not an attractive scenario for either the attraction of new players or even the retention of those players you already have. There's no point in Levy shouting " pay my fee or else" if Bale, Modric, etc. start saying " I want to go". You might be committed for life to your club but your players (or any players if it comes to that) are not!

It's been fun winding you lads up but what I've said above is not meant as a wum. It's just the reality of corporate football that we all have to live with.

He's got 4 years to run on his contract and if Levy decided to sell there's no reason to suggest he'd accept over £10mill less than Chelsea offered last summer. As for Bale, he could be the difference between success and failiure at our club in the future so I really can't see why we'd sell him at all whilst he's happy to stay. Plus if he did want to leave we'd be mad to sell him for less than £30mill, you can barely buy Downing and Adam for that these days so it'd be very difficult for us to replace Bale let alone improve our squad for that.

You've totally side stepped the point. We make profits with or without CL football so money is not an issue, nor is the situation of other London clubs. Levy showed last season that he will not sell just because we missed out on CL football so there really is no reason to think that players could kick up a stink and leave. If players leave, Bale won't be one and Modric will only be one if the new manager doesn't think he's worth the trouble of keeping.

FYI he's clearly not a Spurs fan and you really haven't wound anyone up but keep kidding yourself if it makes you feel like you haven't just wasted your own time :)

I don't want to refer to foredeckdave as an idiot, that is not my intention, but this reminds me of the phrase:
"you can't win an argument with an idiot".

There seem to be a lot of non-Spurs fans on here going on about how we mistreated Harry after he pulled us from the mire or how we CAN'T possibly keep our players. I've yet to see one that has actually backed up their claims with any sort of validity.

Well I'll continue to laugh at you boys.

Go and look at the true state of your last 3 financial statements. Then do some management accounting tests on them (even simple ratio analysis is revealing). Then look at the comparative statements for Chelsea and Arsenal. Add to that the market intelligence that is freely available regarding the commercial income that other teams have achieved and your own performance.

Yes you can make profits but not nearly enough to sustain you as a top 6 club. You cannot compete with Chelsea and City. United can outbid you if they chose. Arsenal have the money if they wish to spend. Liverpool have access to far more resources. Ashley can spend more than Levy. You have a small and old stadium.

So you can laugh at my comments but the hard facts are on my side which makes you look stupid. Wake Up

Liverpool have access to far more resources?? What more than the $3.8 billion that Joe Lewis is worth. The truth is, pal, that Spurs have access to pllenty of resources, when needed. They are just far more prudent with their money. Preferring not to piss it up the wall on over priced donkeys and over hyped, no hope, and no clue managers.

Has Liverpool's spending kept you above us for the last few years, Dave?
Availability of resources is irrelevant, if they're wasted.

£16m for Henderson or Modric? Hmm...

I`d have to say that if Jordan Horrenderson and Stewart Drowning are worth £20m each, then Modric is worth at least £40m because he is twice the player of and Bale £60m.

That said we all know Liverpoo pay 3 times what players are worth, so its all relative.

Why are Liverpool still going downhill if they've got such vast resources that can keep us out of the top 6? You spent around £45mill more than us on wages last season yet you still couldn't catch us so your extra income counts for little if you squander it. Also Newcastle have the second highest net debt in the league and unlike Chelsea who are top, they have Ashley who is in it for the money not an expensive toy.
