Yes I was thinking that they seemed to be putting players playing in certain positions to make the squad look unbalanced. Omobamidele for example was playing LCB with Hanley when he was fit.

    25 man squad
    8 must be home grown
U21s (except those on loan) and goalkeepers do not count as squad players

Players born after 1st Jan 2001 count as Under 21 and therefore don't have to be recorded in the squad. For us this includes:

    Idah (Feb 2001)
    Josh Martin (sept 2001)
    Mumba (Oct 2001)
    Tzolis (Jan 2002)
    Omobamidele (June 2002)
    Rowe (April 2003)

So technically we have 20 players in our squad.

I am not saying we need a bloated squad, however we do have room to manoeuvrer if we want or need to. With the Championship stopping for 5 weeks for the world cup (12th Nov-10th Dec) we will need all the strength in depth we can afford. Even with 5 substitutes this season.

We were also linked with this guy when he was at Sevilla, when we ended up with Amadou. 25 year old CB available on a free transfer, with 89 games in Ligue 1 under his belt. Fits the NCFC signings profile?

Well, he fits some of the profile in that it would be a free transfer and it's a position we need. He doesn't fit the 'experienced in the English leagues' criteria though a year in the Championship would provide that. We really need a left footed CB, which he isn't, although he has played on that side. Valued at £13m a few years back, that has fallen to under £1m now.

Hmm, maybe he doesn't fit the NCFC profile all that much...:

"Sevilla dismissed Joris Gnagnon due to the lack of professionalism he showed in failing to maintain the physical condition for elite football. And the Frenchman has returned to his old ways in recent times after joining Saint-Etienne as per Mundo Deportivo. Gnagnon apparently arrived 20 kilograms over weight back in November and was actually confused by a teammate for a security guard such was his physical condition."

That could explain the big drop in his valuation. I think Enzo Ebosse would be the better option.

OMG, he really sounds like what we need in the squad after a disastrous season which needs the whole club pulling together.

Can anyone give me a single reason why anything this guy Ansel Moreau says should be taken seriously?

He doesn’t think Hanley is our worst player?

His Twitter account has done transfer rumours/speculation for 10 years and surely nobody is sad enough to make up transfer rumours for a decade?

But yes, looking into him further I can't find any articles with his name on the byline, so his journalist credentials aren't exactly the best.

Wouldn't that depend on who he thinks is worse? But I guess you do have to credit him for not tweeting that Grant is a target for PSG ........

The Club cannot just assume that certain players will leave and get in replacements first. As long as we have 25 or more players on the wage roll who are counted as part of our squad Smith cannot get get any players in. To offload players is easier said than done as you need a Club who wants them and is prepared to match their wages. Take Hugill as an example. We would presumably want money for him bearing in mind what he cost us and he is undoubtedly on top Championship wages at Carrow Road. He is not in the early stages of his career so playing time is not an issue and he could just see out the last 12 moths of his contract before leaving on a free. There is no reason why he would want to move now if it involved taking a pay cut. There have been a lot of ifs and buts on this thread about what could or should happen but as it stands at the minute how many players do we have on the books who would qualify for the 25 man squad?

By my count, we have 24 senior players and 6 U21 players. The aim, as stated by Mike Bailey, should be to recruit a quality CM and then any upgrades who can be recruited creatively to replace players leaving or going out on loan. We seem well placed to do that or to stick with what we have until January. For that reason there's no reason to rush any decisions. We are favourites for promotion as we are now, so no need to panic.

Feyernoord have reportedly joined Club Brugge in showing an interest in Tzolis on loan.
I personally wouldn’t mind him going out on loan as long as he gets lots of game time, then we can see what we have. I’d be equally happy for him to stay and play regularly to hopefully prove that he is good enough.

Michael Bailey's latest piece in The Athletic is devoted to Tzolis. Not very revealing about how club and player have reached the current point, but it seems clear that Tzolis's future lies elsewhere. To quote:

"Despite the four years remaining on Tzolis’ contract, Norwich are openly looking to move him on this summer. That will most likely be on loan and with the option to make the move permanent next summer, with Norwich aiming to recoup the majority — if not all — of the fee they paid 12 months ago...............................

Tzolis was the wrong player for Norwich to sign in the first place for their circumstances, especially having sold such a prominent attacker in Emi Buendia during the same promotion summer. But also, Norwich did not prove the right move for Tzolis and his initial five-year contract became more about value-protection than a commitment to his longer-term development.

All Tzolis’ departure would leave is the sense of what might have been."

So that's a qualifier for the group stage of the Champions League plus a qualifier for the group stage of the Europa League (who were runners-up in the first Europa Conference League last season) showing an interest in a player who, according to our manager, is not good enough for the English Championship. There is clearly a discrepancy here.

Where does it say that our Manager doesn't think he is good enough for the English Championship? The article seems to indicate that he was the wrong signing in the first place, he has never settled here and now wants to leave. With that mindset it would be impossible for any Manager to get the best out of him.

Sadly (for me) Tom Lawrence (Derby, out of contract) is being courted by other clubs, but not NCFC. Looks like WBA are favourites
