By knowing something bad is going to happen but not reporting it you technically become complicit in the crime, simple really.

I think you need to understand that a person in the FBI is unlikely to put his arm around you and ask you nicely. He's going to apply pressure and intimidate you. In this case, with a kid, he went to far but its likely how he conducts himself. Imagine what they deal with day to day. Its no excuse to make the threat, even in jest but its just how they are forced to work. Even if there's the slightest chance you may have something, the nice way isn't going to cut it.

If that FBI agent is a bit of a dick, well you get this. I seriously doubt this young lad is going to suffer a sudden "accident"

 

It is illegal to use treats of physical harm to get someone to do your bidding. Even for the FBI and especially against someone who has committed no crimes
