There's plenty of scaffolding on the Guildhall, repairs to the roof and the iconic time ball brought back into use.

Not sure, but ours is the highest in the UK, and the only one on a municipal building.
If the path to your kids school had thick bramble branches growing halfway across, and 3 feet high nettles leaning a couple of feet into the path, would you expect the council to do something? Would you expect the headteacher to have noticed the path to the school was causing problems to pupils and rung the council? Or would you observe the kids turning up with scratched legs, torn trousers and stung hands and just shrug and say it’s not your problem?
We’re not kids. But this is reducing the capacity of the path and when it gets dark there are issues with people leaping out of the way and crashing into each other, doesn’t need much imagination to see people falling over and breaking bones. And yes I do expect the SMC to pay attention to the main routes to the Stadium, parking and the state of West Park, public transport and all these infrastructure issues. They’re managing a facility with 25k capacity plus staff, it’s part of their due diligence. Any sizeable employer will have a facilities manager who does this as part of their job description.
Some silly **** journos may use it to spice up their drab copy, the locals don't.
The Times Square one was built, and is, and always has been, used an entirely different reason.
The Greenwich one is very similar, but ours is a very important part of our maritime history whether it’s iconic, or ironic, or neither.
I think it’s a very good thing it’s getting done, and it has every chance of becoming iconic
I think the first one in this country was at Portsmouth because of its naval connection. There were others in ports like Liverpool but don't know if they are still there. Saw the Portsmouth and Greenwich connections on a documentary a while ago.
I didn't,say the locals did. It was a judgment on the paucity of language of the journalists. Though that isn't restricted to the HDM. A fiver for everytime the word flaunt accompanies a picture of some female would provide enough to fund a fans buyout.
