Steady on Mrs LaLa.......don't push your luck........the Cellarman might ban you from the Pilgrimage for cheeky comments like that.
Mi tipperitter curnt spoll. I'm not bursting a blood vessel notdistant what I am doing is looking at reality and not some pie in the sky load of rubbish that Brent comes out with again and again. Also the same sort of rubbish that people are spouting about me being lucky to have a club to support. My patients is running very thin with all of that right now. Look at it dispassionately for once. What has Brent paid to say he saved the club. Nothing at all. All he has done is put his name to the deeds. What has Brent done since getting his hands on the club? Nothing at all except ask for volunteers and then crap on the very people who made his aquisition possible. Made several lucrative contracts with PCC through putting his name to the deeds at Argyle for no cost. If he decided to pull out what would he leave behind? No debts because he would let it die on it's own and walk away. He has asset stripped the things that would have been worth something and would leave a carcus after the vulture had done it's work already. I am supposed to be grateful for this?????? Why in god's name should I. I am not saying there would have been a different kind of option because I don't know that. However, Brent is no better than it would have been under Heaney and Risdale from where I'm standing. He has a chance to prove me wrong and I will be the first to acknowledge it if he does but at the moment he sits and watches the ship spring holes all over it whilst he does nothing at all. Thanks Mr Brent I'm eternally grateful for all of that. Not.
It won't die if it lives within the income fans generate. It will die if it's reliant on hand-outs and then Brent walks away. Thing are better because we are still playing League football and Option 1 remains available.
I'm old enough to remember the fear on my mothers face in the air-raid shelter.....when the V1's and 2's flew over head.....and hoping they would go beyond us. Dramatic I know.....we're only talking about the slow bleedying to death of a football club......but not any old club but ARGYLE......it could go belly up.... to many people have not yet cottoned-on that things are becoming very serious.
So it's a must then that people on low incomes pay out of their meagre pocket content to save the club and it's nothing to do with him. Great and which league won't it die in I would also ask because if things continue with nothing done at all it won't be in the football league that's for sure. If the local Bin man had won a couple of million on the lottery and bought the club for the same as Brent did under the same terms I doubt you would be so starry eyed about it's prospects notdistant. I suspect there is a bit of "He's a businessman so he must be ok then" in your views. Yes a sort of snobbery if you like.
The ruling classes are not snobs......with Eton and the Billingdon Club in your make-up....you are a class apart. Know your places....Mrs LaLa.......sensible.......a bit of forelock tugging does no one any harm
You can tug what you like plym this boys not for tugging. (I heard something similar once and it sounded hard)
You seem to have mellowed somewhat in the past 24 hours Sensible, so the mantra is obviously doing some good. I owe you an apology though, I left a key line out: Only property developers wanted Argyle Brent is a property developer He has no real interest in football He will put no money into football HE DIDN'T SAY HE'D EVER PUT MONEY INTO FOOTBALL There is no buyer other than Brent Get over it for Christ's sake I'm not saying Brent is the ideal owner, I'm saying he's the one we've got, selected from a pool of errrrmm well, one actually. With the property development get-out-of-jail-free card now played, the chances are there'd be a pool of none to choose from next time. Personally, I'd rather have an owner that enforced financial rectitude because as sure as eggs are eggs, a club is going to go under soon and it could easily be us. I heard an interview on the radio yesterday with an insolvency specialist: he rates Hearts chances of survival at 50:50 - at best. PS Also consider this: Portsmouth are in the process of a fan's rescue bid. They're getting attendances of 15,000 in League 1 after their fall from grace. We got 16,000 in the Championship in the first year after promotion after the best promotion run in the club's history. How do you think a fan backed rescue would work on crowds of 6,000?
If my memory serves me right haven't Pompey signed some decent players whilst in administration ? Their crowds knew they would get value for money and whether you like it or not, this season Argyle could have been done under the Trades Description Act as they are at times ..... Not Fit For Purpose !
To be honest NotDistant having seen some of those who sit in the directors box coupled with the fact that we dont seem to have any direction through the manager, players who dont play with passion ..... I think I would have preferred Argyle to fold and a new Phoenix Argyle emerge and to start again .... at the moment and how things are being run up at Home Park we are witnessing a slow and painful death !
Park football? No thanks. Don't forget the penalty for going bust altogether is not relegation to the Blue Square but expulsion from the league system altogether. Given the back-biting going on now, I'm even more firmly of the opinion that Argyle would never, ever come back from that - or probably from the Blue Square either.
For 5 seasons now we have witnessed everything that can be thrown at a football club thrown. Most of the backbiting is borne out of frustration. Argyle have a very loyal fanbase considering all that has gone on with the club .... I personally would cheer the players off of the pitch even if we went down 2 - 0 everyweek if they played with passion and fire sadly Notdistant that isn't the case and the fans are voicing their opinions. The fanbase divide is due to the Green Tinted one side and the Realists the other and on other sites, if anyone has an opinion that isn't the party line then they are attacked furiously. Say what you like about this site even if someone comes out with comments that nobody else agrees with they are not verbally attacked or told they are not a true supporter. I think too much has gone on for the fans to sit back any longer just to be glad that they have a team to support.
I trump your "Green Tinted one side and the Realists" with "Argyle fans one side and the Others" or "Loyalists one side and....." - what's the opposite of a Loyalist?
This is just bullsh*t notdistant. Stop right now from blaming the fans. None of this is down to them. I haven't mellowed either. My opinion of Fletcher and Brent is exactly the same as it was previously except that I am no longer prepared to play "jury out" with Brent. All this poppycock about if not Brent then who business is just denying where we are right now. I am not grateful to Brent as our saviour and why the hell should I be. I go back to my original argument of some while ago. If you were served up with rubbish in one of Brent's other businesses then you would demand a refund and would not shop there again. It is not the job of supporters to just throw their hard earned into the club's piggy bank it is the job of the club to give the punters entertainment for their money. Mostly, today excluded, this is not happening. Who can blame people for saving their money by not going. It seems to me that mostly it is the ones who don't cough up anything. If you are so proud of Brent for saving the club then I suggest you send him a cheque equivalent of a season ticket price. Personally I think we are being sold short for what has been paid. Brent is not the saviour of the club. A saviour would have bailed it out and put something in place to ensure it's survival. Brent has only taken from his involvement and there is nothing you can show me that says otherwise. Is there somebody else out there to take his place? Well we don't know there is or isn't do we but one thing Brent has ensured is that there is precious little left for anyone to be interested in. He has already picked the bones clean and having done so seems prepared to sit back and watch the outcome whatever it may be without lifting a finger. I'm so grateful for all of that I really am. I could even have his babies.
