Never said any of that mate. 34 years ago our Argentinian players had to leave the country for 2 or 3 years cos of the war. Today we have an Argentinian manager and no opposition fans mention the the Falklands. Was just giving an opinion about why English rugby fan were choosing to support Argentina over Australia. Have no idea what the rest has got to do with my idea especially the great grandad bit.
Ossie Ardiles went out on loan for part of the 82/83 season. Ricky Villa decided in 1983 to move to the USA as he was coming to the end of his career as he was over 30. Which other Argentinian players who left for 2 or 3 years are you referring to.
Both stopped playing in April 1982 after the FA Cup semi final v Leicester because of the Falkland invasion by Argentina. Neither played again in the 1981/82 season for spurs. Both had abrupt ends to that season which led to Ardilles being on a season or so long loan in France and Villa deciding to leave altogether. We didn't have any other Argentinian players.
Just looked up stuff on this and realised that I was wrong reasons Villa ... he played on for us until the cup final but not in it. In my defence it was 34 yrs ago and I was only 14 and my memory is clearly going! http://thesefootballtimes.co/2015/05/30/ossie-ardiles-tottenham-and-the-falkland-islands/ This is the article if you are interested. By the way...I wasn't condemning or blaming anyone about them not being able to play. I think that it was an impossible position for them to be in. I only raised them to illustrate that time can change how people feel about things like this.
