Mucky Bucky down Holderness Road from 49 till 67 then all over Hull and left in 79 when maggie came to power ( little voice in my head said Go south young man) been in Notts since
did,nt floyd get done for that old ladies murder near sculcoats lane.him and 2 others broke into her sweet shop while tripping. they hammered the poor old girls head in.i knew all three.a set of ****s.in fact i lived next door to one of them down fountain road.
I can't believe that of Floyd. Crazy, yes - but essentially harmless, I'd think. The last time I heard of his existence was that someone had bumped into him in Manchester, Picadilly. Or was that Jed?
i played football for cooper in 1968/69 but i was too scruffy for the cricket team. also did hurdles and threw discus. we stayed back every night to play tennis etc. before that i was at fountain road infants, juniors and seniors.lived down grange street
Seen on HDM that the Sir Henry Cooper site has been turned into a park. They want to build houses on the Schultz site but the council don't think nearby schools have enough places to facilitate it.
I bought a hat in Santa Cruz in '91. There was a temporary covered/open-air market in the centre, is that right?
The council are probably right. Both Shultz and Cooper are history, as is my junior school Shaw park. Where do Orchard Parkers go to school these days?
lived in Brid and came to BP either by train/trains or Boddy's Buses(coaches actually). Had to get home from school quickly on a night game or hitch a ride with my mates brother in his A40! Remember getting surrounded by Millwall supporters one saturday in the car park.... Also hitch hiked to The Den one Saturday to watch us lose 4 - 0 if I remember correctly. Not sure if they were 'good old days' or not!!!
Thorpe Park or The Parks (former Court Park) are left on Orchard Park. Further from that are Parkstone, Endike, The Greenway (Fifth Ave) or St Anthony's (Holy Name). Regarding the council being right, 8 think they want to fill their new houses right next to Thorpe Park first before somebody else builds nearby. The last thing they'd want is to build new houses where the flats were only to not be able to fill them.
Going to Banner Elk for Christmas - renting a house there - it better snow as there's 13 of us going for a skiing Christmas holiday. I live this west side of the pond now so only a 2 hour direct flight, handy with kids.
Great thread, just reading it now. Grew up in Ferriby. Then Hunsley for me - turned down Hymers as all my mates went to Hunsley, simple thought process for an 11 year old. Trinity House for my elder brother - he ended up as head boy there or something. So Wolfreton especially were arch enemies in football, Hessle High for cricket. Learnt to swim at Albert Ave Baths. Table tennis and Judo at YMCA on George (?) Street. Usually hopped on bus into town Sat lunchtime (after school sports in the morning) to either go to Boothferry Park or hang around in town Sat afternoon if City were away or it was out of season. Bought Commando war story books from the Market, or go in Asbestos and splash out on a record from Syd Scarboroughs. Mum sometimes took us to Cliff Pratts on Spring Bank as my brother was well into cycling (doubled up with visits to the dentist on Spring Bank who specialised in not using anaesthetic due to his war training). First season ticket to BP South Stand cost 5 pounds. 10 pence transfer into the seats. I'm ageing myself here. Dad worked on NSF - 2 Jags was guest of honour at his retirement bash as they knew each other well having worked together. Mate's dad ran Duke in Ferriby so spent a lot of time behind the scenes there including my first beer and playing 2 man indoor football in the function room which had the best slippery flooring for sliding. When not there often causing mayhem in the Crest Motel as it was then called (Hallmark now). Visiting teams usually stayed there if they'd come a distance so often got autographs. City also sometimes did their pre-match get together there. Bruce Bannister was a neighbour so did bob-a-job for him. Christ I could go on for ages! Moved away at 16 as Dad retired and we moved Darn Saarf as my Mum was from London. Now live overseas (25 years) but make a point of getting back whenever I can - this summer gone for instance, showing the kids where I grew up (and seeing the 2-1 versus Leicester) - loved every minute of it and so did they more remarkably.
The Floyd I knew was in his late 20s when I was 14 -15 Dont think he would have hurt anyone and would be suprised if he did
