Well done, mate. I never thought about walking and it's massively important as it burns calories and improves your cardiovascular fitness. During the summer days, if I'm off work, which I am now, I'll walk at least 10 miles every day with the dog. Some days will be way more, I'd even say treble that. I'm lucky where I live because it's all countryside so once I get into it there's so many paths and places we can walk too. I've been here 3 year and I'm not even close to seeing it all yet.
Walking is more about burning calories than cardiovascular unless you are really striding out and uphill. Really need to add a bit of running to get the cardiovascular improvement. Noticed from using my Fitbit that walking will normally have your heartbeat around the 80-110 mark whereas running will push it into the 130-150 level. Strongly recommend getting. Fitbit or similar measuring device as it really motivates you to do more.
No my body tells me that. Unfortunately it cant tell me which heart rate zones I am in throughout the run or measure my VO2max and resting heartbeat more accurately, when it does I will be able to dispense with the Fitbit.
I applaud that you do this JT and I can see Fitbits are now a common thing. I've been running for 10-12 years (although been off it the last 2) and my focus has been on the routes and the routines, diet and most importantly ensuring weights for specific muscles to accelerate the cardio when I run. It's fairly basic stuff but it's never failed. I stay toned, in shape, healthy and in full flow my stamina is very good when I run. I do wonder what more I'd get from a Fitbit tbh.
I just enjoy using it whether I am in gym or running outdoors. Keeps track of all my running times and routes. Also makes me think about getting up in the office and moving around which sometimes I get engrossed in work and forget to do. Same as you I have realised value of core work to improve speed etc and now have a personal trainer 3days a week working on general core and then specific muscles for running. Really seeing the benefits - when I started all this I was running 5km in 30mins. Am now down to 22.17 and have tasked him with getting me down to 20 by year end.
Yeah, total gimmick. I watched some geeky scientific program and it showed how wrong they are. The scientists couldn't believe how many people fell for it.
Playing indoor football on AstroTurf wrecked my knees. I tend to get hip bursitis easy now too, which I also blame on fake surfaces. I used to be a lot more athletic, now I can't be. For a while I let myself go... Couldn't exercise like I once could... So took of screw being fit.. Give me bacon sarnies. I gained a bit of weight... Didn't care... it's only when my cholesterol went up and I realised that I was close to needing medicine that I changed. Living healthy now, lost most of the inactivity weight I gained, and found new ways to exercise. Determined not to regress... I was close to high cholesterol and prediabetes when I got my wake up call.
Don't listen to people who say you shouldn't eat meat. You should eat meat. Vegetarians are usually deficient in several nutrients. That said, it doesn't take much meat to get what you need. Also, don't listen to anyone who says you shouldn't drink coffee. Lots of studies have shown coffee helps with all sorts of things. Nothing wrong with a couple of cups of coffee a day! If your cholesterol is high, don't use a French Press too much, use a drip coffee maker instead. I cut back to one French Press made cup a day to lower my cholesterol. No issues with cholesterol in drip coffee the oils get filtered out.
Been saying that to myself for a few years now. 37 and although thin and relatively healthy the amount of exercise has definitely been on the slide for the past decade...
