For me, Verts and Gylfi are good signings, having younger players around instead of the likes of Gallas and Nelsen and only an injury prone VDV to play behind our main striker was worrying. Having to change tactics every time he was out or went off, cost us imo. I'm glad Ade will be a Spurs player, to stop all the gooner rubbish about our top striker not even being our own player, as if this is somehow cheating (and forgetting Benayoun conveniently).

Another striker and/or winger (even better one who can play both but not Walcott <grr>) and we have a top squad. If AVB gets his tactics right next season we will be a threat in every competition we enter.

The Goons don't object to loans per se, just loans in which you get useful players <doh>

And its a Yes from me too.

I havent been this excited about a new season for a long time, we have done some great early season business and it make a refreshing change to not have to wait until 11:59pm on 31st August.

I have just 2 concerns, Firstly, we have got to sort Modders out quickly, and by that I mean sell and replace. I am sure Levy would not let him go without a decent replacement being lined up (I hope). and secondly, we have got to sign another striker. Ade and Defoe are not enough on their own especially if Ade goes off to ACON in January, if we can sort these two bits of business in the next couple of weeks my optimism will rise further.

i suppose the good news about the striker is that its less important to get it done early. Barring injury Ade will be around til jan so that gives us a few months to get NEW STRIKER up to speed for Jan.
Is Leandro still a possibility? Could have a few months to aclimatise and also have a bit of a rest from the Brazilian season

For me i think either -

Sturridge 5m (rumoured) or Ba (7mill rumoured) would be good, and still quite inexpensive..... well dirt cheap compared to say..... Rasiak, Bent, Rebrov, Keane v2 + Pav.

Anyone know how likely that Togo will qualify for Acon? Or Cameroon for that matter?

From a quick Wiki it looks like both just have to win their final two legged ties to go through and since Cameroon have Cape Verde they're a shoe-in and Togo have an okay tie against Gabon so it's not looking great for us keeping Benny and Ade over January/February time :(

I'm usually a fairly pessimistic fan, but one who likes to give new faces a chance to show me I'm wrong.

With AVB in charge and the signings that have been made, all evidence points to everyone at the club pulling in the same direction. Those that won't will be cast ashore (Modric & Gio) and we'll hopefully have a United squad. I even took time out in my recent blog to express just how good things look right now with the way our club is going, where I claimed it's probably the most excited i've ever been going into a season in my twenty years of supporting Spurs.

Haven't read anything on it recently Yid, but was just wondering if Benny has worked his way back into the coaches good books then? I know there was a fairly major fallout a couple of years back but as they didn't qualify for ACON last year nothing had been published about it.

I'm sorry but I think you're all being too kind to and overly optimistic towards Ade.

In terms of the liklihood of him joining or his ability? I know you're not his biggest fan but surely you can see he was great for us last season?

Lancaster, Fredericks and Archer signing professional deals over the weekend - plus Coulibaly, Smith, Luongo and Ceballos were prominently featured in our kit photo - so it looks like we're going to be giving the youngsters a bit more attention than loaning them out half a dozen at a time.

TBH, I can't decide as there's no 'Meh' option. Don't want to sound like a party pooper, but as good as things appear to look currently, I'm still not convinced with AVB's appointment. I think our new signings (Vert and Ade) were already on the cards before 'Arrys dismissal and would have joined anyway.

Sorry to be a bit negative guys, just how I feel on the matter ATM.

We'd have signed these players no matter who was in charge so in terms of our manager that changes nothing about what I think about him.
I have no issue with getting rid of redknapp as it was obvious that he wanted the England job and as soon as Hodgson has a bad run the whole issue would have raised it's head again so that has no bearing on what I think about AVB.

I do have a big problem with AVB...he was appalling at chelsea tactically, he was appalling with his man management and he was appalling in press conferences .... maybe he's learnt from his experiences but his first interviews suggest otherwise.

I hope I am wrong and support him as he is now our manager but this has **** up stamped all over it...just like hoddle, santini and ramos.

No matter how good things look, there's always a significant chance the wheels will fall off, somehow. Not many people would have guessed Chelsea winning the CL would cost us so much.

Having said that, things do look very good, better than I would have hoped. I would have stuck with Redknapp, and would have wanted Bielsa (if available) if I'd sacked him. But hey ho. AVB is the man, so I'll back him, and since his appointment the club has done all the right things. I'm definitely seeing the argument that at this point Spurs need a young manager who's more tactically astute, and that AVB is that guy.

The most important thing, to me, is that the sense or image of Spurs continues to grow, however nebulous that sounds. With Bale in particular, but also with many of the other players, especially the young ones, there's a tremendous sense of excitement to be playing for the club. I'm especially hopeful that AVB brings in the young players as they're ready. I think we've got at least a couple of stars waiting to get their chance.

On the down side: Modric still needs to be resolved. Too much may depend on a striker in his late twenties who's very tall and needs to run far and fast to be effective (meaning he's all too likely to get hurt). It would be nice to have a good replacement for Lennon. Also, on the strategic front, AVB may well decide to jettison the style that worked so well for Spurs last season, with Lennon and Bale on the touch lines.

But all in all though, things have gone better than I would have hoped--so far.

The resistance begins. Poor AVB, it all looked so good for him on here until about an hour ago  Personally, the signings brought in, the attendance of some of our youth prospects in that photograph, and the way AVB has been talking leads me to think we're going to have a good few years ahead of us, maybe even a title, but I'm not going to put my house on that, but definitely feeling a trophy.

I don't think so spurfectionist, Chelsea were supposed to dominate for years, and they haven't. In fact, their ascension opened up the league that little bit more, considering at the time United were dominating the league. Now there are three sides who could win the league, as well as two outsiders (Us and Arsenal) meaning this league has probably never been so competitive.

City shook a bit last season an there was talk of Mancini leaving. Tevez and Balotelli are unsettled and would be hard to replace if they were to leave. It only needed Defoe to tap in and we'd have been made and City would have been second. Nobody is so strong now as to dominate the PL,it's as delicate as a tap in.
