What would £727 a week get you in London? A mattress in a box room in a flat with 12 other people?

Mind you, Edinburgh's not much better. It's time Edinburgh Weighting was introduced like they have in London (not that it seems to make any real difference to Londoners lives).

I'm on over a bag of sand a week before deductions. After pensions, tax, national insurance, child care and season ticket loan it goes down to around £730 net per week. After mortgage, housekeeping, savings etc I'm left with around £50 a week to keep me happy.

I could sign on for £73 a week, what a mug!!

It's what you earn combined with where you live that matters. I'm now in the East Midlands on well above average London money and can buy a 3 bed detached up here for a price that would buy you half of a two-up, two-down in London.
