A little theatrical licence , but Holtby's purchase was greeted by many as the second coming, as if we had signed any of 2 Chav players , remember we had been sniffing around them for months but Uncle Dan would not pay their price for quality hence the eventual budget Holtby deal. I think you get my drift.
Which is why they hated Chelsea so much hence the bitterness and subsequent "rivalry", judging by Mouser Watch it looks as if you lot have replaced us
Their fall from grace has been hard to bear for their fans. And somewhat amusing. But don't give it unless you can take it (a cautionary tale for the remaining Sky 4 on several levels) .
I'm probably seen as optimistic in general. I don't think being optimistic/pessimistic is a huge part of how you supporting your club though. I'm always excited to watch Spurs play but particularly in big games like the one tomorrow and as much as my brain would prefer it to be an "easier" match, my heart wouldn't have it anyother way. If you can't enjoy the build up to the games, watching them, celebrating as well as moaning then you wouldn't be a fan. As I say, I'm probably seen as an optimist but that's more because the negatives don't get me down so much rather than how I see us progressing in the future. I think you just have to accept that we always have a chance of winning and always have a chance of losing, there were plenty that gave ourselves no chance against City and there were plenty that thought we'd beat Fulham and no matter what excuses can be used the results were opposite to the expectation and there was always a realistic chance of that being the case. If we miss out on CL football again, no matter how heart breaking the moment might be, we will get back there at somepoint and it will be all the sweeter for seasons like this(if we do miss out), and last season.
Hard to be delusional if you have supported Spurs for a while. We are guaranteed glorious success, glorious failure, inglorious success and inglorious failure and it generally follows that we experience all of these in the passing of a season, every season. Boring it ain't. I think its what being a football fan is all about. I would say I am pessimistic/optimistic in equal measure, but on the whole realistic.
I am a firm believer in seeing the positive in life...I bring my children up like that too ... the one proviso is spurs... I find that expecting the worst doesn't stop the agony but it does make it bearable. That's how I coped with spurs being relegated in the 70's; losing 7 nil at Liverpool, losing 5 nil at home to arsenal (both also in the 70's); losing the 87 cup final; losing to port vale in the fa cup; having christian gross as our manager; having bloke in a coat as our manager; alan sugar as a chairman; losing 6-1 at home to chelsea; losing 7-1 at newcastle; losing 6-1 at newcastle; not beating man utd away for TWO Decades; not beating arsenal in the league for ELEVEN ****ING years; not beating chelsea in the league or cup at the bridge for TWENTY THREE years and counting; losing our last SIX fa cup semi finals; Losing 5-1 to chelsea in the cup semi final; lasagne-gate; chelsea winning the champions league and costing us our place in this season CL; selling Chris Waddle; selling Gazza; Carrick demanding a move; Berbatov demanding a move; Modric demanding a move; David Bentley joining; Jason Cundy in a spurs shirt; Sol Campbells betrayal...the list is ****ing endless... expect the worst...cos being spurs it'll always happen!!!!!!
oh i forgot...being a pessimist is what helped cope with being 3 nil up against a really **** man city side who were down to 10 men and still losing...only spurs!
Last year, I watched my team become just about the first team in the history of organized sports to have success turned into failure well after the season ended. This year I'm hoping we can achieve heartbreak on the last kick of the last game. That would be a big improvement. I'm a pessimist with delusional tendencies. I'm more than realistic enough to appreciate that disaster will come. However, I try to fool myself into redefining the problem. My happiness in this world depends on making up illusions faster than I can see through them. I've got myself partly convinced that the real race this year isn't for CL places, or even for the PL title; it's for individual honors. So Spurs sweep aside all competition easily, with Bale winning the three big ones, and 2/11 of the all-PL side Spurs. It's not quite as stupid as it sounds, because there's both considerable amounts of money and future support involved. I've been asked what it would take to get a lot more Yanks to support Spurs, and I didn't want to say a PL title, because that seemed discouraging (not to mention revealing my compatriots as the shameless front-runners they mostly are). But in fact PL player of the year will definitely earn Spurs some international fans. You'll see more than a lot more Bale jerseys next year. And I believe most of the good things people say about players and management. Why not? It doesn't do me any harm.
I tell my kids that being a spur prepares you for life's kick in nuts...the trouble is that they now think life is just an endless line of disappointment and soul crushing pain
Usually optimistic because it's eleven v eleven and the others can make mistakes, lose form or have injuries and therefore can be beaten. How many thought we'd lose to City and Arsenal? So I'm optimistic for tomorrow. ALL teams put their supporters through hell colin and not just us.
