Another fine win today and we are all but nailed on for winning this league.

BUT, at what cost to the history of our famous club?

Don't get me wrong I'm all for the investment that Vincent Tan has injected. However the re-brand is on the march with more to come, of that I'm sure. I was amazed at the number of fans willingly and proudly wearing the red scarf issued at the Brighton game. Outside afterwards you could have been mistaken for thinking you were in another city; red scarfs everywhere. we appear to have accepted the change to red without any qualms.

What worries me is that the scarf only had the word Cardiff. What happened to City? Are we being led up the garden path to a name change as well as a colour change? As for the bluebird, well I just can't see it featuring next season. Another thing; The announcer at the CCS used to introduce the team as Cardiff City the bluebirds, not now not this season.

Are we sleep walking our way to re-branding that is going too far?

I may be a dinosaur, a regular since 1968 through plenty of thin with the occasional highlight which is why we cling on. I'm certainly enjoying the quality on offer these past few seasons and long may it continue. But I worry about the identity of the club, where exactly are we going?

I don't know what the future holds but I guess while we have this debt we don't have much choice. Perhaps if we wait until we are debt free before telling tan where to stick his red scarves :P
 
Football in general has been learning the lesson in recent years that 'he who pays the piper calls the tune'.
As soon as the sport started taking the money from sky the whole game began changing. Games on most days of the week, kick off times changing, half time intervals extended to fifteen minutes for television.
All the money in the game going to totally over paid average players resulting in ever increasing ticket prices.
Despite all this we still turn up in our thousands to watch the games.
If it wasn't for our current owners there probably wouldn't be a Cardiff City for us to support.
Yes I think we should still be playing in blue but I don't own the club and it is not my decision to make.

I would much prefer to have our current owners rather than the previous con man who claimed to be doing all for the club he 'loved' and merely put us into an unmanageable debt that nearly destroyed us and still appears to be trying to take us to the brink.
I would rather we played in pink than have that bastard anywhere near our club.
 
Welcome "Newbie" although 2 little words in the 3rd line from the end might give a clue? I wonder if you can drum up more support for your views?

I don't think our middle eastern friend would put up anymore of his "hard earned" cash. More likely to asset strip if he got a big enough foot in the door.

For £100m VT can do what he wants and when although I think he is wise enough to know when he has gone as far as he can. I think the red scarves were a mistake, setting us up for the big fall we suffered on Tuesday. A bit like those stupid clackers against Reading in the play offs.

He must know that we will always be the "Bluebirds". The fans will not lose that and he cannot dictate it. It would be a bridge too far.

However, we got over that today and move on to the next game. For those who went today, what colour was most in evidence amongst our travelling support? That will be interesting to know. It will also be interesting to see how may reds v. blues are at the next home game on 5th March.

I look forward to your ongoing views as I am sure will a little Minx we know.

I understand the changing face of football and there is very little we can do about it. We must be greatful to VT and his team, He is a very shrewd business man and I get the impression he is in it for the long haul. We must be thankful we don't have foreign owners like some teams; Forest anyone? Although we still have Sam's legacy to contend with, at least he is out of the way, God forbid had he stayed, we would have done a Wimbledon.

My debate is not a blue v red argument, (how naive to think we would win if wearing blue not red) I wonder where we are going. Next year we should be in the premiiership, but I wonder how the club will look in a couple of years time. Will we recognise where we came from, will we have any soul left in the club?

As I said before, I will continue watching and supporting, regardless of the colour, I just have concerns the club is on a road of change which we may not recognise in the future.

From the outside, looking in - if Cardiff City have their best period in their history over the next few years (as an extension of the last 5 or 6) then I doubt the majority will worry too much about the identity of the club and what direction it takes, and I say that for fans of any team and not just Cardiff City.

By nature most people resist radical change (sometimes small changes) but in time learn to live with it providing everything is okay for them.

If the next few years are not what are hoped for then it might be a different story and even the possibility of a backlash but for now just enjoy what is happening on the pitch and wait to see what the future holds <ok>
 
I always put my tuppence worth when this subject rears its ugly head once more.
Same as the OP I have been attending since the late 60's. If you read the rest of the thread that Arwr kindly provided, you will see that some of our fans really are stuck in the past with thier vitriol, one even saying, no red in sight these are the real fans !! What a Tit.
The divide that i do see, is most of the people who support the club from within a mile of so of the stadium, seem to be stuck with the 'Lets play in blue attitude at all costs' however as the vast majority of our Home and Away support comes from outside of the city limits this is not a true reflection. When i talk to people from the Valleys there arent many left in the Blue corner and most have embraced the change to RED. We have not lost any of our identity and moving out of Ninian park was the only way forward, or we would never get to the premier league if we had stayed there.
There are many of our fans easily led my the so called Fans leaders that appear on the other board, and also believe everything the cut and past king has to say in the Echo, Carl is no more a fans voice than i am.
I will be wearing the Red scarf for the forseeable future and i will be supporting Cardiff City as i have always done, and in my case it has been mostly Thin, however the last 8 years or so have seen us succeed beyond my age groups expectations.
Embrace Change or you will be left behind.
We all want our club to do well, however it is apparant that some peoples views tend to be stuck well and truely in the past. I for one do not want to go back to playing in the dungeon. We are about to witness a golden age in Welsh football club wise, so lets all get together as one, leave our hatred and insecurities under the bed and enjoy the present.
 
It's quite enough having opposition fans beating us over the head with the colour change without having to do it from within.

Late 60's for me as well - the memory of the Hamburg game at 11 years of age will never leave me. I have to say until the last minute of that game, I enjoyed it and remember more of it than the Real match a couple of years later. Maybe that last minute goal that killed us off had something to do with it because it's as fresh as the day in my mind 45 years later.

The point I'm trying to make is that things like that can never be eradicated by whoever controls our club at any point in time.

We are where we are, red or blue for the moment, and I for one am very grateful for the involvment of Vincent Tan and his colleagues in our football club.
 
Having looked again at the thread title, it makes me wonder why it's so negative.

Call me cynical if you like, but new posters appearing with this sort of article on our largely positive board could be construed as "undermining by stealth". The second line of the article says it all to me.

Perhaps I'm wrong, but I have my doubts about the OP's motives.
 
sparky, i joined a cardiff forum a while back and because i wasnt overly positive in every post, they said i was a jack and didnt want to debate so i just stopped going on the site, i'll give the guy the benefit of the doubt.....<ok>
 
Too many sensible things already said on here to repeat.....but the OP is way off target.
History is exactly that.......it does not change unless your name is Stalin or Hitler....and even then the truth will out.
We can rehearse bluevred all day and still forget the stripey lot that stared it all.
In 30 years, this will all be history and there will be an interesting legend about why the much-vaunted and successful Bluebirds team plays in some other colour. A lot of our regular posters on here will be pushing up daisies and, no doubt there will be ructions about the latest colour change.
MAybe we should worry more about what our third strip (for European ventures again!) will look like.
 
If I'm honest, I'm not too bothered with the shirt change. If we ditch the bluebird or the cardiff city FC name however, I wouldn't be very happy.

I haven't been supporting Cardiff as long as some (~14 years, I'm 21), however it was long enough ago to witness the dungeon days and I would rather not go back there. I remember when I was about 8 y.o. sat on my stairs before a match, almost in tears because I was fed up of watching us lose 1-0 every match. People used to tease me in school for supporting cardiff (by plastic man u fans).

Sorry for the life story, I just wanted some people to see how unrewarding it was to be a Cardiff fan "back in the day", because; to me, it seems as though the people complaining about 'losing our history' weren't there to experience it.
 
I am pleased my thread has generated some debate. I did not intend to be negative, I have no hidden agenda. My concerns are based on observations since the re-branding. There is no doubt I would rather be where we are now and embrace the changes; next season will be amazing.

We all feel your pain mate, we old codgers have seen so many false dawns, so many new chairmen who were going to bring the good days back. Rick Wright RIP tried hard but could not get others on board, Sam the man was all talk and so trousers and was willing to put us in administration.

VT has been the only one who has put his money where his mouth is, of course we would all prefer to play in blue with the Bluebird badge but he who pays the piper calls the tune.

Sold our souls for the money? Never understood that phrase ever. The soul of the club is, surely, the fans! Have we made a penny out of following our club (apart from down the bookies)? So that is a non-argument.
Am I happy to see the home shirt go from blue to red? No but as in every thing we must evolve to survive.
People haven't blindly accepted the change but I would suggest have though long and hard about the change and its effect on them. Some of the comments on the other web site are farcical and smack of sheep following others rather than a mind of their own. I may be wrong but that is my impression.

If you've been a regular since 1968 I'm a little surprised you don't know the name of the guy you refer to as the stadium announcer.
