I think it is down to trying to get a player to perform well if he is not committed - remember how King wanted away - ultimately it probably cost us the return to the Prem
I think it's about time that a club took it that far. Obviously not in circumstances such as Martin O'Neill or Steve Coppell, but where the manager was going out of his way to engineer a move, and the club is insistent that the contract be honoured. You may well be right, but I don't think it's that clear-cut.
It comes down to how they are drafted. The type of clause proposed by OLM is quite common is certain trades to stop people pinching the client book when they move on. They are usually time limited though.
Setting aside the legalities, MM has chosen to take on a club that needs re-building. Shortage of players, in a financial mess unless the overseas owners stay on board and HMRC chasing them to keep paying up. He has got to act fast as pre-season is just around the corner and will no doubt use any knowledge of players to try and stabilise a club that is in a mess. In the same way he will know backroom staff at Watford better than any others, so will make that his first port of call. Somehow he has to get his bosses to believe that he knows what he is doing.
Agree with you on this OFH - but poaching people from a club where survival was the priority may not give him the team around him to mount a promotion push - hope so anyway - love to see them take one of the relegation places and narrow our risk
