I'm agnostic towards Vyner. As someone who played my game further forward - and was a dreadful defender myself - I can't really criticise unless there are blatant 'howlers' being made. Vyner seems ok - not brilliant but ok. He's got his plaudits too - player of the season contender - if he was that poor then surely he wouldn't have even been shortlisted? Nige seems to rate him too, so he can't be THAT bad????
He isn't THAT bad and he's decent in the opponent's box. He's just to heavy and cumbersome turning for me. Rumours abound we're looking at another CD.
Nige needs to sell Scott then we can really push on with a goalkeeper -attacking midfielder-big strong no9. The dominoes can fall in place for a real go -all hinges on Scott being sold for big bucks.
Disagree, best way to progress is to keep our best players, if we sell then ok use the money to our advantage, but personally I’d prefer we kept him and won promotion this season. Imagine if we’d sold, Gow, Merrick or Ritchie, we’d have never been promoted all those years ago.
Agreed, I've been spouting on that trail for yonks! this was the plan, or one / part of one of them a bout 5 /6 seasons back we did, and were doing quite well until we went tits up and sold Brownhill ! it was at a time when MA was hell bent on getting us in the black! that was a success!!! to half a degree! but from February onward we dramatically went back on to the rocky road with results up and down and after 4 seasons have still not recovered
I don't think we’ll get £25million for Scott so he'll probably start next season. Should we get that figure I think 3 players of £5million apiece would give us a far better chance of promotion.
to be honest RP I dont think tagging 3 players at £5m is the answer .. maybe 3 players but how or what they cost, when they are signed is not relevant! EG assuming, but hoping not, Scott gets sold for £25m [ about £24m in the pot? ] a experienced prem player on a free who is maybe an ex star at end of career 30-33 could be contracted for maybe 2 years? his fee is the wage ! say £2m ! paid weekly!
It would be great if we retained Scott, signed up Jason Knight to play along side him, with the new defence resources we have, a settled, skillful. experienced squad we could make quite a positive impact in the Championship. Nige and Tins have carefully developed this group of players, blessed with youth and experience, fresh new signings, I personally think a breakthrough of positivity and progress is coming, we are better placed in management and players than we have been for years, as mentioned before the owners, management, players and fan base are all united, singing from the same hymn sheet, it's up to Nige now, the time has come to deliver, Up the City!!
It shouldn’t be all on Scott, we must have some left in the coffers from that AS sale? That can’t have all gone on Connick and Memheti and FFP?
We’ve also brought in another 3 this window, we’re also looking at knight, that’ll all be from the Semenyo sale and offloading wages of HNM and Kalas etc.
From what I have read the offer we made for Knight was approx £1.5m, Derby are thought to be reqiuring £2m, surely we are not miles apart but Stoke and Ipswich are in the running, players choice.
I think £1.5m was our first offer, we’ve made two more since, the last being £1.65m, they’ve said our offers weren’t derisory, just not enough… we have the decide if we’re prepared to go higher.
If Nige thinks the asking price is fair then let’s hope we meet Derbys valuation and get it done asap
Nige doesn’t decide if the price is right, he will have an opinion on the player, but it won’t be his decision how much we pay. Or not.
