i am sure rowland wycherley and the other directors make their money from outside the club as well, they were /are part of the development at the gay meadow and or the wakeman school which looks as though it may be developed into flats. wherever rowland and his directors earn their corn and invest some of it in the shrews, the better run town will be run. until there is a change in ownership, the club will be well run and money put aside for rainy days. if this means a well club above halfway in the league but with a spark of ambition, i for one will be happy, on many occasions i have alluded to towns bad luck and what has caused it and will continue to cause it. rowland and his minions er sorry millions may have the answer. floreat salopia and 3 loggerheads
atchamjack, why do you think this is "early season wummery" i think i have a good solid valid point, have you been reading whats going on up and down the country. and its certainly not communism, more like giving the club back to the people who pay for it, "us the supporters"..more money can be brought into the the town by private sponsors who are more willing to give donation to clubs run by their supporters trusts rather than privately owned!..and on your last post and what matster had to say..im surprised at your lack of ambition.
Rushden & Diamonds and Gretna are two examples of clubs that splashed the cash that their owner provided and once that owner departs/goes bust that money disappears and so the club falls back down the league to whence they came. The Shrews do not have enough supporters to warrent a shares sale. Shares may get you so far in terms of a cash injection, but what if that money runs out? If they did would you be willing to pay your share of the money to buy that 'special' player? What if Johnny X doesn't want to pay? I can see your point but I'm personally happy with the status quo at the moment. Just be glad we haven't got the type of fly's that are hovering around wrexham wanting to take over the Shrews.
Tinned Hats.. I would rather GT & the whole team be replaced than RW. It is a well known fact that STFC are a very well-run club & that has everything to do with the Chairman. Why on earth would you suggest he's lining his pockets with sums of money? AJ has it spot on, it's early season WUM'ery. Why else would a newbie go a'WUMing (like you did with me) the night we lost to Torquay, eh?!
jenny i am deffo no wummer,i was merely making a point to you... although i have always read posts on here this is the first time i have ever give an opinion, but it sounds like a very closed shop on this board "toe the line" or else you are a "wummer", the point i made was valid..if there where more finances made available, we would have got automatic promotion straight off, it just seems we get so far and then bang thats it!, same old noises coming out of Wycherley, "we will be better next year"..blah blah, its like what matster says, you also look at the likes of fleetwood and crawley once their owners pull out they will drop like a stone, as i have said before big changes of ownership is happening in the lower leagues and we must make sure we keep one eye on it!!
matster...yes i would be prepared to dip deeper in my pocket if i new all my money was being invested back into our club, i think we have fantastic support, and add that to new sponsorship and fans raising more cash i thing our average gate would increase by another 3 thousand, i think everybody believes we are a league 2 club and thats the way its going to stay, but i say with our new ground we can be at least 1st division or even championship. we just need to believe in ourselves and get some back bone!!
I think we have the potential to stay in League 1 and an opportunity to 'visit' the Championship occasionally. Due to potential supporter figures some of our wages bill would have to be generated by having a decent youth training scheme which is in good shape at the moment, we just need to be seen as a place to come rather than a big Midlands or North West club. I don't think that the people on here are set in their ways, I just think that they realise that a 'gently gently, softly softly' approach is better than having a sledgehammer approach. I'm sure if you've been reading these threads for a while then you'll realise thad there are a few posters on here who'd take slight offence to saying they're towing the line. You're not Diamond Geezer BTW He must have come over here by now!
hi tinned hats at the risk of dipping my toe further into these slimy waters, may i suggest rowland wycherley and his directors would have made their fortunes elsewhere prior to investing in shrewsbury town. nobody is going to make millions out of football or line their pockets. take man utd 850 million in debt, name one premiership club in profit. as for the shrews a small market town football club, lucky enough to own their own ground with a brand new stadium, courtesy of an excellent board of directors and chairman. i am not set in my ways but i know when someone is talking balls or sense. there is a difference you know. i happen to support from a distance a league 2 club the envy of its opposition and in higher and lower leagues. i suggest you show similar support and quit carping from the the stadium car park. floreat salopia, may shrewsbury flourish and 3 loggerheads
another thing tinned hats, the manager may have a bit of money to spend on 1 or 2 new players, the chairman received 450k for grant holt, 500k from man city for joe hart playing for england and 250 k received from everton for our youth goalkeeper. other amounts may be received for other player sales. but do not run away with the idea that all this money will go to graham turner, much of it will have been reinvested in paying for the stadium and improvements to the ground. i am sure gt will be able to spend up to say 250k, should he be unable to loan players. floreat salopia to the best run club in L2
atchamjack..don't get me wrong im not carping, but as you say with our excellent youth policy, and money received from the likes of hart and Holt etc a very well run club with a fantastic ground and a more that average crowd, i still ask the question...why have we been in league 2? for so long..and all im doing is posing the question, i think with the type of welcome that ive had on this board you wont find many wanting to join it, as it does seem and elitist back slapping few that post here, ive only been on here a few days and everybody has called me a wum...'why'?..i just haven't got a clue!!..not the most friendliest board ive ever been on, and im only posing questions after all, just to find out what everybody thinks!!....sorry if you think you are in slimy waters...please atchemjack..take the stage!!
hi tinned hats, you are right to raise the point, why are shrews not doing better than they are. for the past 4 years they have been the bookies favourites under 3 successive managers and have got to wembly 2 years running and should have got to old trafford. this season we should have had auto promo but for a feckless linesman. the real truth is that town are just not good enough, they give penalties away they concede late goals they have mid winter blues of several games without a win. shrews are a jekyl and hyde team, a damned frustrating team who at times have uncle graham tearing his hair out in frustration. will town be any better next season i doubt it, not as long as they carry on like the last 4 years. town will never win anything with that ruddy awful lenny the lion badge. so we have established it is not rowland wycherleys or his directors fault. we have an excellent manager. what town need is some dedication from the squad a new badge on their shirts and occasional root up the arse from the manager. in short the players need to perform consistently for 7 and a half months in all weathers or else. by may 1st they need 85 points a tall order but play well who knows. together tin hats and with the rest of the fans we will have those wretched shrews clambering up that league. floreat salopia
oh and tin hats welcome again to our threads, i cannot wait for another controversial thread from you
I'm glad your here Tinnedhats, it is always good to have fresh opinions. you'll find many a message board that if you give a different view you will get back an opposite view. Blue and Amber is a prime example of that. We are all nice people and have just got to know each other over in the BBC 606 board. welcome on board and don't give up
going back to gate money I just worked out that if the average wage is £1500 a week in the squad (with some on 1k some on 2k+) that means an average wage bill over a squad of 25 to be just shy of £2m a year. The Gate income is 5580 people by 23 games by say £15 entry - that equals a figure also just shy of £2m a year too. As we have a 60% limit on wages based on income all over income cannot be spent on player wages. (i'm being generous on both sets of figues i think!!) Perhaps one of the reasons then that we haven't gone up is partly down to bad luck 2007 was definitely down to that and also I know town didn't play well in 2009 final but luck got the Gills up in the end. Alongside this perhaps there have been too many changes to management and the squad during the passing years. We know that the current squad can play well, let's just hope that GT brings in some quality this summer to help us get up automatically!!
morning matster, dont you think we are destined to meet in one of the cup competitions,i just hope its not the jptrophy i dont fancy another thrashing
Morning to you too. We used to get knocked out of the cups by Histon and such likes. Although last year we did a bit better beating Charlton and holding out 'till the end against Southampton. A cup game against your lot would be great!
matster, thanks for your kind words, at least i feel a bit more welcomed now, the main reason i have only viewed thease boards and not participated as there does seem to be a lot of benign conversation and wumming, and then to be accused of being a wummer on my first day sort of summed things up, and its very difficult to have a conversation when one poster blames all our bad luck on a change of badge...im sure its more than that.....surely, but he has redeemed himself!... ive always had a great suspicion of chairmen and boardrooms...and by reading thease boards a lot of our posters are quite happy to stay within the comfort zone...we must question everything!! and am afraid i will be a tad controversial, its my nature.
