Fair enough - I would consider glory to be an achievement that will be remembered prominently in the club's history. I wouldn't say Dalglish (2nd time round) led you to glory with the league cup, nor Evans nor Souness with the FA Cup. Wouldn't say Docherty or Atkinson led us to glory with the FA Cup wins either.

I think Moyes will almost certainly win two or three trophies, whether that counts as glory is all down to personal definition.

Neither of those is really a criticism of SAF's management style, or evidence of any 'fear' imo. They both just show that, for the past 25 years, Utd has been no place for weak characters. Players like Saha who would let a bit of criticism get their heads down would always struggle to succeed at any club with very high standards.

If anything, that shows the beauty of SAF's approach - not only would he motivate the team at half time, but he'd also sort out the ones who didn't have the mental strength to make it in the long term. I reckon Rooney was probably referring to Saha and others like Richardson, Campbell and Eagles who maybe had the talent but not the mental strength.

  2. I think it was Gary Neville that said something about a Man Utd player after a bad performance and that he would get slaughtered by the other players in the judging room. I guess that fits in with what you're saying.

Saha couldn't stay fit I thought. he wasn't an 18 year old when you bought him.

As I said, I was observing, not judging. For the sake of balance, I also posted a link to Fergie's own explanation of his so-called "rants".
His achievements speak for themselves, but I think it's fair to say his methods didn't sit well with everyone.

  5. I was trying to show balance too (that'll shock everyone <whistle>). It seems that those "defending" him were saying he doesn't get angry and shout whereas those "attacking" him where saying he was like the Incredible Hulk <laugh>

In reality, we were just discussing something that we all agree with; a manager requires that air of authority (fear factor) which demands respect from the players but without scaring them so much that they are unhappy.

    They mean the same thing!
This is the wrong thread for a protracted argument on this- especially as we seem to be in agreement over the topic in general, so I suggest we drop it.
If you really want a discussion on semantics and the need for commonality in communication we could perhaps do it in the Arms?
But later, because I've got to go for a while.

  7. Sure, fearful and scared mean the same thing but I only used the word 'fearful' after talking about the fear factor. Essentially, that was what I meant. But I agree, time to move on <ok>

I ended the discussion. If I hadn't had said anything then Saint would have hunted me down later <yikes>

Its not a surprise to see that Man Utd fans on this thread are in denial about their irreversible decline <ok>

Yeah, one look at United and it's meh, they just do not have that aura of invincibility any more, Fergie took it with him, Moyes never had it.

Moyes is all "We came we saw we sometimes conquered but mostly didn't"<laugh>

They are too big, well established and make too much money to fall into the trap we did which we ultimately have yet to reverse.

Are they in decline? Yes - in the sense they are now just part of the mix with the other competitors.

Still a major competitor - although (naturally) I hope they do a Leeds!

right now we are at the point that we just ask.. with moyes in charge would RVP have joined over city and which top payers in europe will sign for him.

lets leave the money aside like willian... who wants to go to utd cos they believe that as a top player moyes will deliver them titles and a chance at euro glory.

    Funny you post this mate.

Shows how much you believe Everton can win the League in the near future.

You clearly don't and it exposes Everton's small club mentality despite your relative success in the past two years.

If you took Everton's ambition seriously we would be making a space for you around the statue.

Bloody hell pages and pages of comment on a has been and his past effect upon a team and a club. Then you have Mancs trying to tell us that what they are currently experiencing is merely a hiatus. Well I've got news for those Mancs "Go tell it to the fairies!"

The effects of this change are going to be felt for a very long time both on and of the pitch.
