Not really - compared to our success in recent seasons adding another three or four four trophies in six years wouldn't really be considered glory imo. He would lead us to some success, but to lead us to glory would need a CL win or more PL titles.

No one's "fault" imo - just part of a transition. History has shown us that when a new manager comes into a club and throws a lot of money around in his first transfer window it often ends badly (Carroll, Downing, Malouda, Bosingwa, Pistone, 90% of QPRs recent signings etc). I'm not convinced there was the general willingness at Utd to throw a lot of money around in the first summer window before Moyes had a chance to work with the players and understand exactly what needed to be added to the squad.

And SAF had plenty of problems getting players to join us - Batistuta, Shearer, Ozil, Sahin, Sneijder, Ronaldinho, Essien, Robben, Moura, Hazard and many more. SAF missed out on a player pretty much every summer. If he'd been in charge this summer I don't think it would have ended much differently, although he would probably have given up after not getting Fabregas and would just have carried on with the players we already had.

Aye but the 'fear factor' was not so much down to SAF's managerial style, more down to the power he had after being at the club so many years. He could do what he wanted to the players because, when push came to shove, he knew he was safe at the club and the board would always back him. He couldn't do the same at a club like Chelsea, cos the players hold the power there.

I think that's the main thing we're missing at the moment - not just the loss of SAF, but the loss of a single dominant presence at the club which had been there before any of the players. Moyes is going to need a few months, or even a couple of years, to build that kind of presence before he can get the team performing at its top level imo.

  2. The question DR asked wasn't whether Moyes could reach the heights of Fergie, it was whether or not DM could lead you to glory. IMO, winning something is glory no matter whether it is the CL or Cream Egg Cup. If you think he can win a league title then I'd say he would have lead you to glory.

Eh? Do you remember or don't you remember?

In other words, no one has, thanks for clearing that up.

I don't really think Stam mentioning that Fergie 'tapped him up' is actually anything to do with his management style or proving that he was scared, do you?

This thread is purely about united. Not Liverpool.

Welcome to the forum mate. Top user name. Beware of a man known as Gerrez and a Welsh ****er with massively swollen bollocks.

  6. Saint never said anything about players being scared or criticising the management style. He said a few players have stuck the knife in after leaving. With Fergie being at the helm for 27 years and having managed hundreds of players, he's not going to get a 100% approval rate is he? Pretty sure Roy Keane had a few words to say BTW.

Ahh, the man with an axe to grind aginst the whole world.

Who HASN'T he stuck the knife into? I think we can rule him out as an irrelevant.

Stam was still at United when his book came out by the way and it was not in anyway shape or form sticking the knife into Ferguson but clumsily dropping him in the ****.

I remember someone did, but I don't remember well enough to say who and quote chaptrer and verse of what they said.
Surely that's not too difficult to understand?

Let's keep this on topic. We're not discussing the ****ing international break. We're discussing the possible decline, or not, of united. When I post a football-related thread, I expect it to be adhered to. No derailment please <ok> <whistle>

    http://www.dailymail.co.uk/sport/fo...sheds-light-Sir-Alex-Fergusons-hairdryer.html

    Rooney:
‘I’ve seen the manager shout and scream at people and when they’ve gone back on the pitch their heads have dropped. They’ve lost it.’

    http://therepublikofmancunia.com/saha-still-got-fergie-hairdryer-after-scoring-twice/

Saha, after scoring two first half goals:
“When I headed towards the changing-room, I was feeling proud,” he said. “As soon as I sat down, I was woken up in a violent way — Sir Alex Ferguson rendered me deaf.

There are plenty of others if you bother to look.

  14. There are always going to be players that aren't happy with a manager each season. As I said above, Fergie was in charge for twenty-seven years so there will be many if the research is done.

I know. I'm merely making an observation in response to those saying that his reputation is a myth.

(And those who say there's a difference between being fearful and being scared. :))

Yes, I understand. But you giving some vague thought that maybe someone might have said something at some point hardly proves the point you all seem so hell bent on proving does it?

Ahh, good. Glad we cleared that up then.

Can anyone tell me why Stam was brought up in that case?
