I know it goes deeper but I am basing it on the difference between before and after the 2008-09 season and that season. The rivalry went through the roof that year and I thought it was great. I don't think the rivalry with Everton would disappear even if they dropped to the conference but I do think it would with Man Utd. As Dave says, maybe it would switch to Man City, especially all their fans would jump ship
Well if that's the case explain your comment that you cant understand our delight in your clubs(so far)decline?
Can see your point mate but EFC and MCFC aren't seen in the big picture as players in the BIG rivalry because....... EFC supporters would sooner Utd beat us whereas we would prefer the opposite as in the blueshite to beat Utd and City. Queue Tobes.
In truth this may be the same the other way round, just relief that we are not a real threat to each other
So do you consider the Man Utd rivalry bigger than the Everton one then? I was always under the impression that that was a geographical opinion; ie the Liverpool based (or originate from there) fans said Everton and the rest said Man Utd. PS...I am right in thinking you live in the city right?
Now now Diego, thats bollox mate, were buzzing at our start to the season(rightly so)and laughing our testes off at your start to the season(rightly so). Lifes good(so far).
To put the record straight, our start to the season is well worth you laughing at, i live in hope it is only a blip.
The Utd game has become over the last 40yrs bigger than the derby game due to many reasons, but that dont mean a victory over the blueshite isn't important for morale, i was born within the city boundry 3 miles from Anfield and im now living in the suburbs 5 miles from Anfield. But anyone who knows the Moss would say i live in Beirut.
TBF, I understand what he's getting at but I agree that its slightly unfair too. Of course we are happy with our start but we are also cautious as we know it can go wrong quickly.
I wouldn't agree about the forty years part because of the rivalry between the two merseyside teams in the eighties but I guess you would know better than me The Man Utd is bigger for me (and probably others for the same reason) because there are a lot more Man Utd fans about than Evertonians. Afterall, it is all about the banter. This obviously isn't the case on merseyside.
I work on sites/jobs in Manchester from time to time(like Billy)and the usual stereotypical ****e appears in the canteen etc which goes beyond banter but when i work local its the local rivalry. Horses for courses Dev.
Page... I'd not spoken to you for quite some time so its been good having this discussion. Hope you're good pal
