Football is an absolute shambles on all fronts as we have allowed too much questionable foreign investment that was highlighted by the ousting of Abramovich and his Russian blood money which infested the sport. What is the point of making an issue about the ownership in the game if since that mandate was first introduced many more suspects have been allowed to hold stakes in English clubs and the Saudi murderer is the prime example. Despite claims that his money is coming from the land of public executions nobody at the clearing house for takeovers saw fit to question his ownership no matter which way they tried to hide the real financial trail? As usual the nodding dogs at the head office look the other way because they really know that they have buggered up the whole football world with their collective failure to due diligence since the Premiership was formed. Money money money.
Government response to the Fan-Led Review of Football Governance - GOV.UK (www.gov.uk) There is a summary A-J. Finance is H. (H) Fair distributions are vital to the long term health of football. The Premier League should guarantee its support to the pyramid and make additional, proportionate contributions to further support football. Support, with an expectation of further action from the football authorities ahead of the White Paper. That is not tackling by Government its leaving finance to the EPL, an EPL who are the football authority in control of their finances. That is not a levy imposed by Government, its inaction.
EFL could scrap 3pm TV blackout as clubs urge league to let them stream games (inews.co.uk) Another possible change. Personally I feel football should be protected as the live spectacle it is. The pandemic should remind people that football is a live spectacle with a crowd, dilute the crowd the experience is damaged.
I agree, I think they have it about right now for the EFL, it would be better if more PL games were 3pm Saturday and less TV coverage, but that won’t change due to TV money.
Whilst I agree that football without the crowd would be a bad thing I’m not sure that televising the games would necessarily ‘kill off’ the interest in going to the stadium to watch a game. If we take live music for example; you can watch and listen to music whenever you want - and Glastonbury is streamed live on TV yet people still pay to go there. Live music is always popular in local pubs too. Horse racing is another example - all the main races are televised but the racecourses are always packed. If TV subscription fees were raised slightly but offered for the 3pm games the revenue could be used to subsidise the tickets for the stadium. I think it could be a positive change - if done properly.
Glastonbury is not every fortnight. Been five times and it is not a parallel to football. The Cheltenham festival is not every two weeks ... I once sat through a Q&A where Martin Griffiths straight faced told fans BCFC ticket prices are already being heavily subsidised by TV income.
Sketch says masses when this 3pm live games on TV comes up on the day the Government says we want to put fans in the ground first and not run football for TV companies and sponsors etc.
