the sun wouldntt even refer to us by our name for months and months, they called us "south coast club" for **** sake.
I think we are slowly winning the press over, but we simply are not controversial enough to be newsworthy.
The Mirror claimed we should be liquidated and printed fabricated accusations of bribery about our glory days. That's real press hatred for you.
Was the Mirror sport editor a Manchester United fan by any chance ? Or was it somebody closely related to the Clough family ? Either way, it's harsh treatment from a national media source. I remember how p**sed we were with the Sun a few years ago.
We are 100% not media darlings. We get the amount of coverage we deserve as we are playing the most attractive football. If west ham and leeds played flowing football and scored loads of goals then they would be shown more. There have been a lot of times this season where I have been disappointed in our lack of coverage, eg. Our wonder goal against Middlesbrough that was barely covered. If you are the top scorers in the league, you will get more air time. If you are only winning 1-0 each game then you will only get 20 seconds of coverage. If you score 4 then you will get over a minute. Bottom line is there is no favoritism based on teams, just favoritism towards the best football.
I wouldn't say were media darlings but I'd definatley say that some people within the media circuit hate us *cough andy gray.
And yet, the other day he gave a resounding agreement with Richard Keys, as to who was the best penalty taker they'd ever seen. It was MLT, of course. Shearer was second. Don't care who was third, which if you think about it, is an odd name for a player..!
We had a period of 4-5 years of being the sick joke of english football, thanks to a certain red-cheeked, duckshooting, hockey playing, ex public schoolboy. We are now regarded as a club that plays football the right way and has success on its' horizon and I couldn't give a **** if our media image gets up the noses of certain other clubs, because our time is NOW.
Not media darlings I don't think, but like Norwich have had, we're getting a lot of attention because of the way we are chasing back-to-back promotions. And I think it's deserved, I think lots of people are genuinely interested.
Listened to Talk Sport to catch the Blackpool - Hull news (1 1 ft good result) and the Preview of the Championship week-end, patiently waiting for our mention, trawling through the relegation teams, and all the others above them, 10 minutes of dross with a discussion with a WHU ex Skate O'Neil justifying Big Sams methods and a few crocodile tears about Pompeys plight, then at last, finally "the League Leaders Southampton on 61 points have a late 17:20 kick off tomorrow at HOME to Leeds! Half a sentence and they get the facts wrong, Media Darlings? You are having a larf. To add insult to injury they preview a programme about Frank Worthington, failing to mention he played 34 games for Southampton.
100% right Jen. That just showed the pathetic mentality, the Sun has. It's depressing too, that it's the most read paper in the country.
