I remember being hit at point blank by an old school 1940s/50s leather ball - it was a freezing January day and it caught me, lace first, high up on the thigh, it was nearly 60 years ago and if I try hard enough I can still feel the sting of it now. The ten year old me never batted an eye-lid, us Courtney Street players weren't very good but we didn't blubber!
The pain sounds excruciating old shag. :1980_boogie_down:

I used to work in the prison service, one day we had a Cons v Screws game of football in the sports hall.
Turns out there was a 3rd/4th tier professional footballer on the cons side who had been banged up for (allegedly) dealing drugs.
He lined up to take a shot, I charged in as an attempt to block said shot. The ball hit me in the thigh which stung a fair bit but I gave it a rub, limped for a bit but carried on.
That night, my thigh was purple, orange, yellow, grey, brown and black.

It took nearly two weeks to turn back to normal.

Turns out when a professional footballer strikes a ball, they REALLY strike the ****ing thing!

That's why they turn their heads and don't "face" the shot.
That's a fantastic anecdote old shag. Have you any further pearls of wisdom to share with us?
