Voted no. I reckon they did glory runs, Rosberg's reaction was pretty telling. Obviously aren't up to the pace of Ferrari and IRBR yet.
Williams won a Grand Prix last year, and with Hamilton in the car there's always a chance, voted no though
mercedes had good speed last season, especially their straight line speed.their 2 main problems were tyre wear and reliability. im sure fixing those 2 things were their main priority when developing their 2013 car. i think those 2 things will be alot better this season, and we know their car is faster this season.i think theyll be really strong this season.
The problem is those were their main two problems in 2011 as well but they focused on DDRS for 2012 and we all know how that turned out. I'm voting no.
They could solve two problems with one fix, IF they can fix the fix... They (Hamilton said so during the tests..) lack downforce, generally with more downforce you'll get a more stable rare, more stable rare you get less slippage of the tyres, so, fix the downforce and you go some way addressing the tyre issues. If they succeed here then they may get the odd win.
Tyre management will be the obvious obstacle, ever since Brawn became Mercedes the tyres have ben to blame for everything, even in 2010 when they were still on Bridgestones. If they've sorted that then they can win races, the field's tight, the car seems pretty quick and the pecking order will change slightly from race to race based on track layout, tyres, weather etc. I don't think that at any point will the Mercedes be considered the benchmark though.
Looking at the tyre photos I've seen on this site I think their tyre wear is not too bad. Red Bull's looks really good though. I see no need for Mercedes to go for glory runs as they have plenty of cash. I think Nico may surprise a few people this year.
For me the tyre wear looked a bit more aggressive on the Mercedes than the likes of Lotus and RBR who seemed to be the best.
Son says he's coming over next Sunday morning with the grandaughter. Told him to make nearer dinnertime. not long now.
