you could try a cheeky bid of 40m+£2 and see how that goes lol I don't think there's any interest just page filling garbage for the tabloids, just touching on what someone said above about Chelsea and Liverpool fans not taking saints seriously etc... I have to say as a Liverpool fan I feel in a similar situation with chav and utd fans not taking us seriously which is fair enough tbh as we've been mediocre for some time now but personally I diddnt think we'd be able to get top4 before the season started and I'm sticking with that at the moment, you have been so far a surprise package like us in some respect but I do expect normal service to resume after Xmas when we **** it all up again.
Don't be silly, you're expecting him know anything about our team other than what he's seen on Match of the Day.
so we are the 3rd best team? when city, Chelsea and Utd finally find thier form cream always rises to the top. We could be among the group which includes Spurs and Pool that are trying to break into the top4
I'm sure Liverpool are looking at our players and players from other teams...it is what football clubs do. This is being created by the media as page fillers. Pretty sure that most clubs know that we will not be selling our best players in January when we are near the top of the table...we are a buying club now! They also know that Cortese is a bugger to deal with! History is wonderful stuff and we all love it, but the fact is that at the moment teams like Liverpool, Spurs etc hold no allure for our players...be a sideways move. Obviously both of those teams have a bigger allure for foreign players than we do. That is just a fact.
This is a seriously bizarre thread. Why on earth are you all having a go at this Liverpool fan? Itâs purely paper talk, not one iota to do with Liverpool fans. I have a feeling that, like us, they are really quite happy with their team as it is, and would probably be happy to keep most of their forward players on an even keel and not disrupt them by having their club bring in some of ours (who, by the way - amazing as they are, and despite their value of the same for us Saints fans - would not fetch £200m in anyone â including Godderâs â wildest dreams)!
The funny thing is it's the Liverpool fans who usually get carried away believing every transfer rumour that gets printed. They're always claiming we steal their transfer targets because they get linked to the same players Anyway, bit early for all the cockiness lads. Of course players would rather join us and Liverpool than you lot, at the moment, we pay more for a start. We were there one season too, in the 11-12 season we were only a couple of points off top in January but hit midtable form over the rest of the season and finished way out of it. The scepticism is pretty well founded, whether you like it or not, so expect that many won't take you seriously unless you're still up there come March/April. The best way to look at it is to look at your form that's got you there and think about whether any of the teams that are expected to be above you will hit the same kind of form during the season. 2 points a game is very achievable form for the likes of United, City and Chelsea, and if they finished below 76 points this season you'd have to say it would be a big surprise. So as much as your form has been great so far the liklihood is you'd have to maintain it across the whole season, or even improve it to finish in the position you're in now. No offence but I'd be very surprised(and impressed) if you're still in the mix by New Years, I've just had a look at your fixture list and it's an absolute nightmare! Not saying we've been entirely convincing so far, by the way, there's certainly some question marks over us but if I was going to put money on one of us finishing in the top 4 or winning a trophy it'd still be us.
Obviously, most of us know that, and most of us know that for a new player, Spurs or Liverpool is more enticing, which is why you won't find anyone (except in jest) blaming Coutinho for making that same decision. The issue is when people assume that our players would jump at the chance to run to Liverpool or similar rather than stay here. Also there's not exactly a lot of serious cockiness when it comes to thinking we'll finish in the top 4 - of course we bloody won't - it's just very fun to enjoy it while it's happening. Don't go away from here thinking that the majority of our fans think we're already better and more appealing than Liverpool and Spurs.
We know none of it is true but you get pissed off with the constant stories about all of our players supposedly going to other clubs. Today you guys are being linked with Luke Shaw again but he has publicly stated he is going nowhere. The standard of sport journalism in this country is absolute **** to be honest. As for Spurs you have had far too many of our good players over the years and not just Bale, I listened to Martin Chivers the other day talking about Defoe's gaols in Europe and I remember Chivers coming out of our youth team over forty five years ago only to be overshadowed a few years later by Mike Channon hence our willingness to sell him to you to help with our club finances. Nowadays we are a different kettle of fish but no one has cottoned on yet and that just suits us fine even if we do get pissed of with newspaper transfer fiction about our players. We are no longer little old Southampton so watch this space.
As I said, Liverpool and Spurs must be more enticing for foreign players....the difference this season is that I don't think either team would attract our first team players now. They are having far too much fun.
I don't think its cockiness (from most at least), I think its the way that Kops'n'Rodgers casually dismissed Liverpool even considering signing the players being linked that kicked off the more heated conversation. Even taking of the Saints-tinted glasses Adam Lallana is a player who would improve Liverpools team and dismissing him and Rodriguez out of hand is going to set a few people off.
I really worry that some genuinely do. If we beat Arsenal I think a few will be swearing us in as champions already.
No need to attack us because some lazy journos have decided to make up some stories on some of your performers. I like Southampton, would like to see you hold on to your best players.
I don't think we will win the league (stifling whimpers), but not impossible that we could hold the number one spot briefly at some point. I think we will lose the odd game that will just keep us bobbing just under top four, but will not lose many consecutive games and fall away dramatically. Can't see us being below eight and think top 6 is a reasonable target. May just miss out on European place, but then qualify because of a top side winning a Cup. That is as negative as I will get.
There's no attack on the club. There's just been a negative reaction to one guy saying none of our squad would improve yours.
Thank you. I like Liverpool too and I hope none of the big clubs come poaching your good players either.
You could argue that we've only played a quarter of a season. But if you look at our record since the turn of the year, we are definitely up there. Hats off to you though, you've beaten us twice during that time.
We all recognise it is just the media and, even if true, could hardly blame any team for wanting new players. As said, we are just annoyed that the media don't recognise that we are not a selling club (except in the sense that most teams are). However, we can hardly claim that we are being ignored by the media as we are flavour of the month at the moment. Wanting isn't getting, so we should probably just chill.
