12 of the appearances made when he was full fit included the goals and assists.

"He scored his first goal for Liverpool on 15 March 2010 against Portsmouth and he also assisted Fernando Torres for the fourth Liverpool goal. He was voted man of the match by the fans on Liverpool's official website. Aquilani also gained the man of the match award in his next Liverpool league start, against Fulham in a goalless draw at Anfield. In his next start for Liverpool he finished the match with three assists during a 4–0 away win against Burnley On 29 April 2010 he scored a goal against Atlético Madrid in the Europa League, cancelling out Atlético's first leg goal from Diego Forlán by scoring moments before half-time. Despite a great performance from Aquilani on the night, Liverpool eventually went out of the semi-finals on the away goal rule after Yossi Benayoun had put Liverpool 2–0 up, as Forlán scored his second of the tie in exta-time to take the aggregate score to 2–2.[20] Aquilani won the LFC Man Of The Match award again after his performance."

But, despite this, he never performed once, because U19R said so.

He was injured when he signed, not his fault. There is then decent circumstantial evidence to back up a claim Benitez was told not to play him at a certain point in the season (related to us owing Roma a fee) and then when we did play him he was MOTM in about half the games he played in, including i believe against Athletico madrid in the Uefa semi-final.

He comes back for pre-season and Hodgson sends him out on loan. Whilst at Juventus he plays nearly every game (in a deeper role than at Liverpool, and our role for him i feel suits him better), the chairman signs Pirlo on a free and the new manager decides not to take up a buy option. Hardly the worst report in the world.

He has now impressed in preseason and we would like him to stay.

But by all means please continue to regurgitate what the papers tell you <ok>

Also i have to ask, where does his agent say he is staying? Where does he even come close to saying it?

Nah hes just a very forgettable player.

Seems hes slightly better than I thought. Still embarrassing for Italian football when hes supposed to be one of the top italian players.

Aquilani could score 50 goals, have 100 assists and simultaneously negotiate a workable peace in the Middle East and still U19R wouldn't concede the point.
You're wasting your time guys, he's here for argument, not debate.

    Let's not insult other users.

United19Red's confession that he underrated Aquilani is a debate well-done for me <ok>

Nah hes just a player who I dont rate. Partly down to his lack of football ( I dont watch Italian football no more ) and also due to when I have hes seemed ok but not amazing.

Granted his injuries play a part and it seems his transfer was a bit hectic in terms of how it was handled but hes just someone I thought you guys would be happy to see go.

    Clearly I was wrong.

PS, I dont read any paper, I make my own mind up ;)

So, you DON'T read any paper and you DON'T watch Italian football but you've made your own mind up that he's ****?

**** me with logic like that you'd be outwitted by a sheet of paper.

Fair play, respect due, and i can understand why people have this perception of him.

You know however have no excuse as you can see some of us are quite big fans! Of course we know his shortcomings and he definitely hasn't justified his fee yet, but if you're bored and can catch a game with him in pay special attention. He plays football in teh way you want to see it, has a great touch and movement, and is the kind of player you're glad to have as you know if you have him in the team you will always have a minimum level of clever, passing football. A bit like Scholes for you guys- you know he's going to use the ball wisely and put your team on the front foot, and he makes even the basics enjoyable to watch. That's important when for the first half of the last season the ball spent most of its time getting acquainted with passing aircraft.

Here's an example if you're interested:

Its my opinion that competition for places is a good thing. It means nobody not even Steven Gerrard rests on their laurels.Nobody has a divine right to a place in the side with the exceptopn of Pepe Reina of course.Midfield is going to the hardest to not break into...but to stay in.
Once any player gets in,he must ensure that his performances warrant that place.Kenny won't think twice about dropping under-performing players. And they will find out how hard it is to get back in.He himself got dropped for under-performing.So he's one that knows how hard it is to get back in.
From looking at that, and its obvious Kenny wants mobile players that won't dilly dally on the ball and just ping it about.
I reckon Aquilani with his clever one touch passing would be effective in home games and in away games against the smaller sides like Everton and Spurs.I reckon if we want to be rugged and battle, then these aren't the games for him,but there is a lot of games he can play in.

A class post that doesn't once mention Utd, do you need a lie down KPR?!

Seriously though spot on, and the importance of midfield in this 3 central midfielders day and age cannot be overstated. The midfield both protects the defence and supplies the attack, obviously, so there's only so badly you can defend if your midfield is protecting well, and even the worst forward will score given enough chances, so this kind of means we always have a minimum level of performance. That should reduce the risk of those games where we just don't turn up, and should make the most of our other players. Gives a great foundation, and means we can then add luxury players in other positions if and when we get have established ourselves in the top 4 again.

I reckon the midfield is strong enough now for any opposition that we face.
The majority of the premiership I reckon we could get away with a 4-4-2 with a left sided outlet(Downing) and a player with energy on the right(Henderson) with two mobile midfielders in the middle. There are numerous candidates. However in more difficult games ie away games,it may be better to go with a midfield three to tighten up,the personel may need to change,These are games that Lucas thrives in.He likes strangling the opposition. His partner in crime Jay Spearing does a similar job.
I believe unlike other clubs,we have the personel now to change depending on the opposition.
The sign of a good side is the strength of its bench..and I believe our bench is now as good as anyones if not better than most.3 Different competitions, even if we decide to put out a weakened side...it may not look like a weakened side.I reckon we're two players short of our 2009 level squad wise. And thats another Centre half and a left back.

Add to that a front line of Carroll and Suarez (And Downing depending on the formation) we would frighten any defence
