Yes, that is exactly what I wrote above, heavily camouflaged within comments that they both got sacked for a very poor run of results ... and you can simplify it as much as you like - but I am not obliged to agree with it just because it has been reduced to monosyllables ... Nigel will be sacked if / when the owners' patience wears out in terms of the results ... and that is all
I just hope Millwall sack their manager and he goes there - then he could be knocked out of the FA cup 4 times in one season!!!
Well if you which to ignore the other factors involved in those sackings (and why Nige is still currently with us), that's up to you. I will say though that some owners use a run of bad games as an excuse to get rid of a manager when in reality there are other reasons for wanting to get rid. Sven, for instance, would have been on very good money himself. I would also add that if they'd acted purely on form when they sacked Sven, it was a bit harsh because in the run leading to his sacking we picked up 16 out of 30 points - as opposed to Pearson's 11 out of the same total (and it looks even worse for Nige over the last nine games) - and he's still here at the minute. The defeats under Pearson have been against worse opposition too (although none were as bad as the 3-0 home defeat to Millwall). That all gives you an indication that there was more to it than just results. We'll see what happens. The media expected him to go two defeats ago and he's still here. That shows the owners are being more patient that some would expect.
It's obviously not just about results - Adkins got the boot at Saints when they had started picking up points!
Without wishing to wind up, is it possible that Pearson is still in the job as the owners are looking to line someone up so that when they sack him you are not left without a manager during the final run in?
I don't think so, its really too late in the day to change managers imo, especially when the coach and scout would walk at the same time, it would require a total change.
I suspect you're right Wizard, I was just playing devils advocate. Mind you, it didn't stop the Venkys
We had Mandiric and he advised our owners during the transition before moving to take on Sheff Wed, hopefully his hiring/firing policies didn't rub off on them. Could never reach Venkeys level though, pretty sure we havn't had 4 managers in the same season.
Gangsta - the 'factors' you refer to are actually just the points you have made and therefore, and with all due respect, merely your opinion(s) - I'm not actually ignoring them - I'm saying that for me they may have had some impact but were not the deciding factor - results were - so it doesn't really matter how well Nigel has done with the youth team. reduction in the wage bills, alms for the poor, guide-dogs for the blind and winning the Turner prize for his white-board tactical scribblings - if he carries on losing - he's toast.
According to the media, Pearson should have gone three games ago. I suspect that, if they were lining someone up, they would have started to find their man before that and had them ready for this two week break, so the new manager has time to prepare. If this had happened, and there are certainly two or three good candidates out of work that could have been snapped up, then I believe Pearson would have gone within 48 of the Derby defeat. As this hasn't happened, it implies either a) everyone we approached has turned us down (highly unlikely) b) negotiation with the new manager is taking longer than expected (in which case, wouldn't we still have sacked Pearson?) or c) they've decided to let Pearson finish what he started - we are still in the top six after all. I don't think any firm decision will be made on Pearson until we know our fate this season. But even then, there's no use trying to predict what our owners are thinking. If we go up, they might decided we need a manager with Prem experience. If we stay down, they might stick with Nige because he knows this league. There are never any certainties in football!
At the end of the day Nigel is not a bad manager, but with overseas investors which both you and us (Hull) have - some are getting a reputation of being trigger-happy if they are of the opinion that their "investment" is not going to gain the maximum profit margin. With Hull we do have a chairman/owner who knows the city first before investing in the club - and he seems to be one of those maybe strange types who are investing in the city as a whole as well as the football club, and let's not hide from the fact that Hull City football club would have had major issues without him. I can't speak with knowledge about the Leicester owners, with every fan of an opposition club - no one knows the fine details of how another club is run. But I think the one thing both Hull and Leicester fans will agree on is being thankful that the Venkys are not in charge of our clubs - but with there being no restrictions virtually on who can own a club (ie Mr Bates and his friends) we have to both hope that the same owners have a long-term plan for what happens when they are no longer alive (sorry if that sounds depressive, but it has to be a very long term thought. Like Swansea fans will be thinking when the director who's son was that ball-boy will be hoping that he never is given any shares in the club).
