Yes, I agree but I think he may be thwarted in this respect and his options will be severely limited. I will be a shame if the club does fold and I hope you are correct about a rescue package - despite the fact that it seems so unlikely for us fans of other clubs distanced from the everyday doings on at Fratton park. There most people a host of other clubs who would give him a similar free rein but without the constraints the PFC have to endure. Football finance and re-structuring is really alien to my experience in my profession. The decisions are seldom rational and Appleton does seem like someone with his head screwed on who would make a good job where he has both certainty and money. I think he will unfortunately struggle to achieve his vision at Fratton Park because of the parlous situation with money but, setting this aside (!!) it is exactly the kind of decent - sized club where he would otherwise be expected to succeed. Wonder of anyone read the article in this month's "WSC" about Doncaster which was intriguing as they threw caution out of the window this season and loaned in "star" players to say money? Needless to say, the scheme went to rat **** but the article nicely illustrated that even seemingly sane directors in football clubs are prone to moments of madness. I was always impressed by David Lampitt who always came across as sensible but it now seems that certain things under his tenure were far more "difficult" that you would have been lead to believe.
Today I saw a little worm, Wriggling on his belly, Perhaps he’d like to come inside, And see what’s on the telly.
