What's the price for Benni scoring? Must be decent odds as he hasn't even played recently. But Benni, on an artificial pitch - where players can't go diving in - could have a great chance to show some skills if he plays. If the odds are worth it, I'll stick a couple on him scoring.

4/1 to score when he hasn't even played for months? that's crap. I was hoping for 25's or something.
Will have to stick to your suggestion instead (then blame you if it doesn't come in). ;)

Actually, I've thought Pardew has been doing well in the last few weeks.

Playing Sissoko behind Cisse seems very shrewd. He has been playing pretty much what I think are our best 11 and letting them get on with the match, without too much chopping and changing. Also, playing good solid teams in Europe.

For me, doing the best he has all season

Jaw dropping statistics, for our lot

    http://www.nufc.co.uk/articles/20130305/vad-to-referee-anzhi-tie_2281670_3098040

Istvan Vad will referee Newcastle United's Europa League Round of 16 fixture away at Anzhi Makhachkala on Thursday night (5pm kick-off English time).

The Hungarian takes charge at the Luzhniki Stadium, in Moscow, as the Magpies look for a positive first leg result to bring back to Tyneside.

Vad has overseen 19 games this season across his homeland and the Europa League, handing out 76 yellow cards, five reds and awarding three penalties.

The 33-year-old was named fourth official for the 2011 Champions League final between Barcelona and Manchester United at Wembley, and was also an additional assistant referee behind the goal at Euro 2012, including England's group fixture against Ukraine.

On Thursday, Vad will be assisted by Vencel Toth and Istvan Albert, with Tamas Bognar and Mihaly Fabian the additional assistant referees behind each goal.

Zsolt Attila Szpisjak will be the game's fourth official.

An I'm in charge kind of guy.

I haven't thought much of the officiating of the Euro games so far, everybody seems to be glory seeking power hunters.

Metalist were a good side, who we outplayed over two legs.

Anzhi only appear to be one step up in quality: traded results with Liverpool when Liverpool were struggling, and also with Young Boys, who are no powerhouse. They are a good side but nothing to inspire fear and awe.

I would be inclined to throw Shola at them - - he can be a bit hard to figure out if you've never played against his type of player before. After an hour, sub him for Benni and see if they can deal with the change in gears. Optimistic about this one.

    From NUFC.com

Cisse will miss Thursday's game due to an unspecified illness. The 19-man squad that has travelled is as follows:

Alnwick, Ameobi, Anita, Ben Arfa, Bigirimana, Cabaye, Campbell, Elliot, Gosling, Haidara, Marveaux, Obertan, Perch, Santon, Simpson, Sissoko, Steven Taylor, Tiote, Mapou.

Apart from Cisse, Jonas Gutierrez is a notable absentee while Tim Krul and Fabricio Coloccini remain sidelined through injury.

Hatem Ben Arfa could finally play his first game since early December - featuring in Moscow would coincide with the occasion of his 26th birthday.

    Who's our backup CB ? Perch ?

Guess it's Shola up front, playing in Sissoko, Marveaue and Cabay from midfield. Tiote and Anita holding mids.

What's wrong with Perch? Apart from when he plays at fullback, the bloke always puts in solid performances and plays very well next to a big CB. He can fill in for the likes of Colo very well.
