On this day, we acknowledge those who have served us and have paid the ultimate price. The spirit of the Anzacs ( Australian & New Zealand service men & women ).
We salute you.

Nice tribute diddly
Do you get tomorrow off as well
Happy Anzac day to you too Kiwi.

As an English man who emigrated to NZ with Irish heritage, remember all the UK/Irish men who served in Australian/Kiwi regiments in WW1.

As your Irish family are from Co. Clare, you should also listen to the Clare man, Liam Clancy singing about the horrors of Gallipoli in his version of Waltzing Matilda. They were very brave men. I couldn't see today's generation making the same sacrafices.

Clare and Kerry, both great counties. I spent a few days in Kerry around Christmas. It was my first visit to "the kingdom" (as they call it) in over 30 years. Stunning part of the world. I have travelled to more than 50 countries around the world and the Atlantic West coast of Ireland is as picturesque as any part of the other 50.

As regards Clare and Ennis, see my profile photo, the Cliffs of Moher, Co. Clare. They love their hurling and traditional Irish music in Clare and their Gaelic Football in Kerry. Tengo mucho respecto, as they say in Spanish. I have lots of respect for Clare and Kerry. You come from good stock Kiwi.

Munster is the province of Hurling (except Kilkenny and Galway). It is also the home of working class rugby in Ireland, largely around the Limerick area. Leinster are much more successful as a province when it comes to rugby but rugby is more of a middle class sport around South Dublin.

I hope the Clancy & Makem records brought back some happy memories for you of your Dad.

Anyway, happy Anzac day.

I had a holiday in NZ once. Air NZ lost my bag on the flight from Sydney. Arrived in Wellington on Waitangi Day 6th Feb. All the hotels were fully booked as the Wellington 7's were on. I had to go to a hotel in Masterton 1.5 hours away. I loved Wellington but hated Christchurch. I also loved meeting the penguins on the Otagi Peninsula near Dunedin. 12 years since I was there. I must go back.

Happy belated Anzac Day. I remember the celebrations well when I lived there. I got involved one year in a fab event where some people dressed up. Fab day.

Great tribute, Didley, for your father and all the other unbelievably courageous flyers.
