"RT readers" how ****ing lame <doh>

Anyway, aye hes a **** as is nearly every other national leader. Its almost prerequisite in order to get yourself to the top.

However concerning Ukraine, the hypocrisy of the faux outrage from Western governments is truly laughable. America, least of all, should be making any comment about infringing on the sovereignty of any nation considering their transgressions post-WW2. Especially as Russia has ample more justification than almost any American created conflict in that time.

Considering a bunch of western backed neo-nazi, or "nationalist", groups carried out a coup of a democratically elected government (internationally observe and accepted) because Ukraine dared to accept a much better trade offer from Russia.
Of course as soon as this new unconstitutional parliament came to power their first actions were to begin infringing on the rights of the large ethnic Russian population in Ukraine. Forgotten in all this is that Crimea is Russian and has been for centuries until some short sighted person decided to hand it to Ukraine in the 50s/60s, hence why the vast majority of the population are Russian are calling for secession, you know that thing called a democratic majority.
So Russia giveth, start infringing on the rights of Russians there, Russia taketh away

You can't seriously buy into that **** that the Russian population was under threat. Are all nationalist groups neo-nazis now jakey? yer beloved IRA are nothing more than a bunch of fascists I suppose?. You're trying to tar every single protester with the racist brush.

It's ****e. You know it, I know it and Putin definitely knows it <ok>

Protect the Russian speakers <doh> If you believe that they were even under any threat you truly are a massive ****. Aye, those Ukrainians who won't shot Russians trying to take their weapons but they have secret plans to mistreat ethnic Russians <laugh><doh>

I didn't say they were under threat but the immediate moves of the new unconstitutional parliament were very much anti-russian and be damned if the Russian population in Crimea would want to be part of that. Of course im not going to ignore the geopolitical aspect, but its apparent much of the Russian moves to assert itself in this respect are as a direct consequence of aggressive NATO expansion into E. Europe as well as the virtual encirclement of the country with American bases.

And what are you bringing the IRA into it? Nationalism carries different meanings in different circumstances. A nationalist struggle for freedom is usually centered on left wing ideals, while ultra-nationalist attitudes (like our very own Nationalist Tiger) are stuck on the racist right. Those swastika wielding crowds who seized power in Ukraine through violence are the latter. My use of the word "nationalist" was a swipe at the media tendency to call them this rather than the neo-nazi thugs they are

Using the same logic we could justify the creation of a Northern Irish secessionist state in 1921 to protect the British population (which had been there for centuries) from the majority Irish who were quite violently trying to take control. In your context that was also democratic majority rule... created with a pen and a map.

Not really equivalent as Crimea is it's own autonomous region which, to my knowledge, had the option of succeeding back to Russia (since it was sort of gifted to Ukraine by Russia only around 50 years ago after all) through refurendum if it was desired.
The creation of NI was just that, a creation of a new state with a border that had never existed previous in order to ensure a lasting majority rule for those who had no intention of being a democratic minority as part of the original overall state.

There is simply no equivalence between the two.

I dunno, Crimea was majority Tatars before Stalin interned quite a few of them to the Gulag, in order to plant Russians on the same land - that is at very least quite close to an equivalent of the Ulster plantations (well maybe not, the Russians seemed to treat the natives worse than the British did...).

Aye, I'll get it sorted - I'm going through a real procrastination period with the site at the minute, but it's in the queue.

Just imagine Salmond getting the yes vote in September and then his government is overthrown by rebels who want to let Putin have bases in Scotland. What would Dave do then? "Oh,that's all right lads you go ahead,we don't mind you leasing them Faslane"..I don't think so.

    Hypocrites Ciaran?

Putin's a ****ing ****, Obama and Merkel and Cameron may well be ****s too, but it does not change the fact that Putin is a mentalist.
