Around the mid nineties my dad was the main sponsor for the club. A sponsor who would be recognised by many for the illustrious and second 'Tiger Skin' kit. Through my dad's connection with the club I had the opportunity to see manchester united and have a backstage tour with Wilf McGuiness. I will never ever forget this. At the age of around 8 and meeting Bobby Charlton at Old Trafford. I was too shy to ask him for an autograph and my dad forced me to go talk to him. Bobby said to me something along the lines of "you might not know me but I'm sure your dad does". I knew at that age who he was but I was realy shy however I asked him for an autgraph. An incredble moment which at around 13 years ago I can still remember. We later met Norman Whiteside absolutely hammered! I've lost both autographs since and I'm not sure were abouts they went.
I was really into autographs as a young kid. In 1965 City played League of England at Springhead Lane the day before England played League of Ireland.City won 2-0 Chillo and George Cohen own goal! I was on half term that day, went back to the ground.Alf Ramsey asked me if i enjoyed the game, a true gentleman, autograph no problem.Jackie Charlton,Alan Ball refused. On holiday i got a young Rodney Marsh, Fulham reserve, and also Johnny Haynes, the older members will remember as the first 100 pound a week footballer. Plenty of City ,Waggy would never sign but my old man got his for me at Beverley Races. Happy times UTT

Yes I found that, Waggy was not very forthcoming with his autograph and neither was Ian Butler too fond to sign either. I also remember taking a camera round the back of Boothferry Park during the school holidays, pre season training was just starting and I was taking pictures of the players arriving, don't forget it was film in those days, not digital. Billy Wilkinson, Chris Simkin, Les Collinson, all fine, then our Welsh international, Alan Jarvis, turned up, he wasn't very pleased at all, bearing in mind I was only 13/14 at the time, so not exactly paparazzi. Unbeknown to me the City physio of the time, Jimmy Lodge, saw this and later on gave me a picture of the City dressing room with the likes of Charlie Crickmore, Jackie Sewell, Roy Shiner, Dave King, and others on it, still have the picture.
I got Jeff Astles autograph still. When I was a young lad my uncle owned a pub in Tipton near Birmingham and my dad took me down there a few times a year to visit my uncle Jimmy anyway Jeff would be in there every night drinking with John Kaye who was a friend of my dads from Goole shipyard. Jeff Astle would say "oi little John who's your favorite football team?" I'd say West Brom and he would give me sixpence Then I'd run away and shout "no it's not it's Hull City" Everynight the same John Kaye laughed his arse off everytime, Jeff Astle was a very nice man as well as a fantastic player I was very sad when I heard he had passed away
