Just think back to Maradona as manager of Argentina playing Messi out of position and setting his game plans such that he was stifling Messi's attacking instincts... at least Maradona wanted to play him, whereas Hoddle, .. need I write more?
Enjoyed that. Nice to see goals again and to hear about some of the behind the scenes stuff. I had forgotten how the fans bowed in homage when he took a corner.
I watched it too. Great to see some different angles on the famous goals, and some decent quality video. Whilst one can appreciate Matty's goals because they were televised, some of the archive video from various sources is a bit grainy and shakey. Nice to see that there is good condition video of some of his quality moments. Of it all though, the biggest thing I appreciated was that Tim Flowers said that Matty used to work on his outstanding free-kicks, passes, corners, penalties, etc... He could do it all, and dribble past loads of players too. There are more lauded players out there who didn't have a 10th of Matty's genius, yet they are praised to the skies. The balance was set a little straighter with that programme.
Not too much new if you've watched "unbelievable" and read his book. One point from it which TSS points out above is how much he practiced. As a child, but also in training. Merrington points out what a great trainer he was as long as he had the ball. Enjoyable film, but I was disappointed we saw no pre premier league goals or any real footage of the many assists and skills which were as much a part of the mans game as the special goals
