I've had a counter hatch fall on my head before, that ****ing hurt!

I know to just give them the cash. Unless they're proper nutcases, they're normally quite scared themselves or absolutely smacked up to the eyeballs. The people who target betting shops are normally opportunistic morons who don't understand there isn't actually much cash in the shops.

Seriously, after writing something like that, you still consider yourself intelligent?

People should judge you on your character, personality and charisma - not what job you have or the car you drive. If they do I would suggest they are not the kind of people you need in your life.

There is nothing wrong with manual labour and I find it staggering that a man barely clinging on to his teenage years is needing to ask such fundamental questions on the internet.

That really only applies if you're an England 'hater' - if so, shut the **** up. <nahnah>...

Tash you actually ever really been out on town? You don't have to get smashed to enjoy yourself and socialise, unless you have the personality of a door mat, which wouldn't surprise me to much. Plenty of people don't drink much when out, so you could meet a nice lass while out.

I've worked in a few factories and I can honestly say that it did dumb me down over time. If you're working and living (essentially) with idiots who read red-tops and talk about ****ing women eight hours a day, eventually you don't grow in the same way you would if you worked in a university or something.

You don't get the chance to talk about politics, literature or whatever, if your outside the clique you're gone.

I know people will disagree with me, so i'd like to clarify that I don't think EVERYONE who works in a factory is a dumb twat. I come from a working-class family, and was first person in my entire family to go to university. This isn't a class issue before anyone starts.

That is one of the worst posts I have ever read, If you had an ounce of intelligence yourself, you would learn to interact and communicate with people with different interests and 'intelligence' levels and take them on human levels. I have a degree in engineering and currently studying finance but the best friends and greatest people I know are from my days labouring and fishing.

There is some truth in that.

I remember working in the office in a builders yard and remember a 14 year old girl in the car when her dad was lifting bags of cement, I remember the yardmen ogling her and I reminded them she was 14 and the response? "If she is old enough to bleed she is old enough to breed..." Naturally I was disgusted at that, coupled with the fact I don't drink and listened to classical rather than some dance ****e they listened to, they were convinced I was gay!

Language was atrocious, I have never heard worse, though it was a good experience, I got dropped in wet behind the ears but it gave me a different sort of education.

I disagree. I've been a suit wearing white collar worker all my working life and i've heard the same sexist crap from work colleagues. Office workers are not intrinsically more intelligent that manual workers in my opinion. We each take different paths in life and brains are not the only thing influencing where you end up.

I work with on a daily basis, high powered bankers and brokers, lawyers and accountants but the most intelligent friend I have is a gardener and the smartest person I know (friend of my mum's) left school at 14, not because he was stupid but because he took all his exams early and aced them, decided to drive long haul trucks for a living, because it was what he wanted to do.

Don't look down on any job Tash or the people doing it.

Good post! I would have to agree. I am privileged in that I work in a school and there is a great aura about the place and really enjoy my job, yet hated the builders yard. I can imagine there is a level of snobbishness existing in the higher level jobs.

Actually the worst job I ever had when I started to train as an accountant and worked with 9 women... I lasted 6 weeks before I got lucky and got my current job. End of the day, a job is a job, money is money. My job isn't mentally stimulating but Im doing a degree in Chemistry with the OU so keeps me sharp.
