Well he's wrong with his opinion. Yet again I am at work Saturday and Sunday. sometimes it isn't possible, we don't all work 9-5 Monday to Friday.

I agree with that, but surely you can take one day off a season to go and see your team? Not because you have to but because you want to? Not having a pop as I agree it isn't always easy to see your team but once a season is possible for anyone.

There is a difference between being a supporter and a fan.

One is not better than the other. If you haven't been to an Arsenal game then you cannot claim to be a supporter.

Those that used to go but have been priced out are different. They will and always will be supporters because of the time and money devoted to the club.

But supporting a club involves far more emotion and loyalty IMO.

I'd put money that most of the people that are slating and calling for Wenger's head are

    1) Under the Age of 25
    2) Fans (not supporters)

Many suppoorters have never been to games (different counties, poor economy, etc...)
Absolute BS to say you have to have been to a game to be a supporter

Agree. I never been to Arsenal before this last two years, and because I have now, it does make me a better supporter then before.

  9. I've been to well over 100 matches - including away matches - and am over 25. I think Wenger should have been sacked 2 years ago, and I don't think he will ever build a team capable of challenging for the title again in his managerial career.

I think categorising by age and how many games you have been to in order to rationalise criticism of Wenger shows a lack of understanding. Many season ticket holders, last year, gave Wenger one more season to get it right - which he has not done.

    Exactly.

But I will say if you are born and raised in the area like me supporting your club has a different feeling to someone with no connection with the area, someone abroad cannot possibly feel how someone born and raised in Holloway feels. When you have Arsenal traffic interfering with your life, when you have fights in school with Spurs fans, when you play Arsenal V Spurs in the playground, there is far greater emotion involved with being an Arsenal fan.

So, a Nigerian living in the US is trying to tell a born an raised North Londoner that there are people in Nigeria who have the same level of feeling and emotional tie to Arsenal and Arsenal football club as him ? <laugh>

Is this like Nigerians or, in fact, Africans in general in the 60s, 70s and 80s who were passionate Brazil fans .. until Nigeria or Cameroon or Tunisia or Ghana etc qualified for the World Cup, you are telling me that they felt the same connection to Brazil as actual Brazilian people ?

For the record people, OXO called ME an idiot on another thread <doh>

That's what I am saying. You are an Arsenal fan but not an Arsenal supporter. There is a big difference. Btw I am not saying one is better than the other, there is still a great deal of emotion involved whether you go to games or not.

Therein lies I different argument. I am not saying going to games means you are better, Some would say that but I disagree.

Anybody can have an opinion, but not anybody can have a sense of perspective.

I am much more inclined to take the perspective of Arsenal mates I know that go or have been to games than a cyber warrior from Nairobi on Twitter that has supported the club for 6 years and claims this is the worst Arsenal team he has seen and Wenger is a poor manager.

It comes down to who's opinions and perspective you respect more.

If I wanted to know about a club and their performance, the first thing I'd do is go and talk to someone that goes to games or has been. Watching a game on TV from one camera angle and watching dozens of replays is entirely different to being at the game. Anyone that goes or has been to games will tell you this.

This is the exact point I am making. I am not saying you are anymore of a fan than Oxo or any other Arsenal fan, but you are a supporter.

You are North London based therefore games with Spurs in particular and West Ham and Chelsea to a lesser extent would involve a far greater deal of emotion.

Unless you are from or near the area you support, local derbies like Spurs cannot mean anything to you, it's just any other game.

I am SW London based (same as the team I support), therefore beating the likes of Arsenal, West Ham, Spurs and to a lesser extent Fulham, Crystal Palace, Milwall and QPR would mean far more to me than it would to a US based Chelsea fan that is probably surrounded by United fans.

A lot of rivalries are shaped by personal experience. One of the reasons I hate West Ham and Arsenal is because I grew up with them (family friends and family). Spurs need no explanation.

You can't embrace the culture of a club unless you attend or have attended matches. Part of hating clubs like Spurs to an Arsenal fan is the culture itself. If you are an Arsenal fan from Kenya, I can't see how you can hate Spurs, you don't live near them, know any Spurs fans. therefore how can beating them mean anymore than beating Liverpool or United.

I'd stick a wager that most Arsenal fans outside the UK would view Manchester United as bigger rivals than Spurs. The same is true of our fans too. That's probably because their mates are United and they encounter more United fans.
