You are supporting a reasonably successful team, a bit too unpredictable for good snoozing, but imagine you were a Pompey supporter, how much sleep are they losing over their fate, always someone worse off than yourself. The secret is to go to bed and just think of the positive things that have happened this year and force yourself to dream about Lambo getting another hat trick, works wonders for me.
Missing gene alert!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! I'll tell you why: I have always said that I have had 3 or 4 very key areas of my life, though now at my age only 3 key areas. These areas enjoy all my energies, enthusiasm and passion. Anything else that crosses my life I just do or deal with. These are they: 1. My family (wife and two wonderful children) 2. My Football Team (the amazing Southampton FC) 3. My Career (though as I have gotten older, the career chasing has wained, however I still can't perform to my best without a little fire and passion) 4. This one doesn't count anymore, but it was my own football playing (this was replaced by my family as by the time I met my wife I had finished playing serious level of football) So, I always have had three very all consuming passions in my life at any one time. The only consistant is that the football club has always been one of them. The weirdest of things is that for many many years, I have always found (usually with hindsight) that the three a very rarely doing brilliantly at the same time. E.g., if family life is going great and work is going great, then you can bet that Saints are on a downer. If work and Saints are going great, then sure as eggs is eggs, then there may be some tough family times. And guess what...... right now I am in a particularly tricky phase in my work/career and have been for a couple of years. This coincides with Saints on the rise. For the record, work isn't great now, so COME ON YOU REDS! I hope Banksy that might shed a little light as to why some people can "lose sleep over a Sodding football club". It is a huge part of a lot of our lives. Obviously not yours.
I have passions in my life, but football is entertainment. I enjoy waking up every match day knowing that I'll be travelling from Bristol early doors to meet old friends have a few beers and watch a game of football. I currently harbor two passions, my fiancee and my work. I like you used to have a similar passion for playing, before breaking my leg, albeit in the Belgian leagues and 10 years ago. I just don't understand how anyone can allow a football club to dominate so much of their life.
Fair comment Banksy, but there are millions of us like it. Shame about your leg; you must have been half decent to play in that league. Who did you play for?
It all starts here down under at 0445 and finishes around 0645 - i have the whole day to deal with the result as opposed to you guys who can have a drinkie whatever the result and collapse into bed - if as i hope the result will be good HURRAH !!! day off - if not its a glum day phone boxes to vent my spleen on and various wild life to launch into orbit - Oh and by the way its chucking it down !!!
I can probably put it down to the fact that through my work i've learned to detach myself from things. Yeah, it happens though. Cappellen.
No doubt you can put it down to lifestyle. How much physical activity do in the day? How much TV do you watch before you go to bed? How long is the time period from when your on a computer to when you go to sleep? Do you do any of this in your room/on your bed?
I've always been a crap sleeper to, it's a pain as it affects concentration in the day, and unlike the stone that it Banksy I can't shake thoughts of Saints when I'm trying to get to sleep. Although that is one of many things I have on my mind at the moment. Saints doesn't dominate my life and don't normally think about it until near kick off, and for an hour or so after, unless it's an important game, like the next 3. I don't see how you can want saints to do well and yet have no emotion when considering our slipping up at the last, or roaring on to glory, to me the two go hand in hand.
I read a book for half an hour before bed, so I'm not sure it's related to the time period from laptop to bed - I think it's more of a mental thing right now personally, things happening and all that
The book thing is what it is. You're stimulating your brain before you sleep which isn't a good idea.
Thing is, you're looking at it the wrong way. Adkins isn't trying to stay ahead of WHU. Instead, he's chasing Reading. He's turning what could be a mental negative into a motivating positive, and so could you. As far as losing sleep over Saints, it isn't going to happen.
I personally think what is making me more nervous, is that we have been at the top all season and none of us have exepected to be their, so to mess it up at the end (if we do) is something worse. I think if we had done a Reading and been in the lower half for part of the season until a fantastic run to project them to the top I think my nerves would be less jangled. Its about form and momentum. Also we have games coming up that will be televised and also its a fact (not particularly scientific) that we don't average as many points against sides that play in dark blue tops. To counter that, I recall all the sides that we have beaten at St. Marys we have beaten on their patch except for WHU and B'ham. Lets hope those are the only two I guess there are so many ways of trying to predict this
Looking at it in a negative way again. Before the season started, would you have taken 3rd place..? Of course. So what would be wrong now..? There are many ways to get 3rd place. Yes, it would be hugely disappointing to miss out on 1st or 2nd, but you really must acquire some perspective on this.
Not sure I read this right, but it sounded like an interesting stat. Having looked back through this season, we've beaten Leeds, Millwall, Forest, Watford, Hull, Palace & Barnsley both home and away. The only teams we've beaten at SMS and lost away to are Brighton and Donny. The only teams we've beaten at SMS and drawn with away are Burnley & Derby. Quite an amazing haul. But in short, yes, I echo your hope that Posh are added to the list of teams we've beaten home and away!
To be honest, I find it hard to get to sleep if I have something, no matter how insignificant, on my mind. My advice would be not to be on the computer and especially not on anything that's going to make you paranoid like this site shortly before you go to bed. I like to listen to books or comedy on audio when I go to bed, preferably things I've heard many times before so I don't worry about missing the ending.
