"Hello it's my first day as a medical practitioner. Could I treat your seriously ill daughter or would you prefer my colleague with thirty years in this specialist field to see her ?" Tough call.....
If it were a choice between a football spectator or a doctor, which would you choose? Don't overlook the 1000-game tally....
It makes sense to a point, but it doesn't always apply. Some older people often get sentimental about the good old days when EVERYTHING was better and simply can't accept that something modern can be as good or better. Like when Tickler says that Messi isn't as good as Nat Lofthouse because the defenders can't touch you nowadays of course.
I don't even go really,in fact I've only ever been once, against Man U. Sorry for if I deceived anyone,I just like this forum.
The last ten years have been the best in our history and the last five especially. But to fully comprehend it all you have to benchmarked most of the 1990s , the early 80s, late 70s when the club was on life support and flatlining, the players were dreadful, the coffers empty, no chance of promotion or progress in any competition, when the season finished in early december when we got knocked out of the cup, when the 42,000 capacity BP was less then 1/8th full, the directors either skint or rudderless, football terminably unfashionable and Hull City was a brown Austin Allegro of a club driven by an ugly spinster in mauve crimplene slacks and horn rimmed glasses. When you've seen all that (as many on here have), it gives you a perspective on Corry Evans that is more informed than some zit-squeezing androgynous teen with a FIFA manager mindset.
I certainly don't think a fan is a 'better' fan just because he's been to more games, that's largely down to their age, but I don't think Agro's wrong in what he's saying. Those who have been going for longest, obviously have more perspective and a better understanding of what went before. That's particularly true of the comments about Evans, with the exception of a few seasons, we'd have wet ourselves for a player of his ability for most of the past twenty years.
So when you state long and loud how **** Alex bruce NI international ex Man Utd or Paul Mcshane Eire international ex Man Utd thats allowed is it or is it just an opinion. I never rated Evans what do people want an addendum saying but in regard to Neil Buckley he's miles better.
I gave Alex Bruce the recognition he deserved last season, I said he's a very brave but limited footballer and he is. My main criticism was that he was signed because his dad wanted to help him out, not because of his footballing ability and that remains true. He was never a Man United player, he was released at the age of 16 because he was never going to make the grade. As for being an NI international, he's only there because he couldn't make the international team whose most capped player is Kevin Kilbane(who isn't Irish either). People are welcome to give their opinions on players and they are mainly based on comparisons with other current players, which is fine, but Corry Evans isn't ****, he's just not good enough for the Premier League, neither are McShane or Bruce.
I said Evans was mediocre as was Mckenna. Its only Aggie who is quoting people saying he's ****. PLT has consistently said Evans is mediocre. But your still slating Alex Bruce.
I barely mention Alex Bruce, I said recently that Bruce took us up and if as a consequence he wants to pay his lad Premier League money for a year, then I'm fine with that(as long as he doesn't actually play him, as he's nowhere near Premier League quality). I'm not sure why you'r banging on about this, but for the record, you didn't say his was mediocre, you said he was 'piss poor'.
There were times last season when Alex Bruce stood out and he looked decent, but he wasn't spectacular and he just isn't a good enough defender for the Premier League, much in the same way that Wayne Brown was. Its not their fault and I'm sure Alex will be a fringe player this season, but he'll never be more than that and his days of being a midfielder should've ended the day they started. Evans I think will be a PL footballer, but we need players who are ready now, not in two years time and that's why him and Cairney were shown the door. It's also my gripe about people age bashing players; its all well and good having a team of 19 year old wonderkids, but if they aren't ready for the league we are entering, what's the point?
Cairney has made no progress in 3 years now. That's a very long time at this stage of his career. Maybe Bruce has decided his weaknesses will not be remedied and that he is a luxury player, to be brought on when we're winning 2-0 with 5 mins to go and a player who stands in the centre circle spraying slick 20 yard passes around is what's needed.
Hobbs deffo better centre half. To play alongside Koren or Quinn in CM I'd have Bruce over the other 3 every time.
