Anyone else get a feeling this is like the Ozil transfer last year. Neither wanted to leave, but Real bought in a new player for a similar position and spent alot of money doing so. Both players leave in big transfers and immediately come out and say they were forced out. Ozil had a good start for Arsenal but faded after about 5 games and did **** all for the rest of the season and was carried in the WC, even now he looks poor for a £42m player. No passion for the club he moved to, just slightly a better option than watching Bale and Ronaldo on the Madrid bench. Don't know if it'll be the same for Di Maria, but Real are the dream club and Man U aren't Real Madrid.
I hope Angel, Di, and Maria follow a similar path to Ozil... but not yet convinced. We'll see... doubt he is worth £60m regardless.
It's got nothing to do with Arsenal, he was playing that way at Madrid as well. Di Maria had been criticised by Madrid fans a lot as well, he just had a decent half season and good champions league final. He was garbage in the world cup as well, I really don't see where the £60m figure has come from
Don't blame Arsenal for Ozil's form, frankly if Liverpool had the chance to sign Ozil last season I'd have been jumping up and down with excitement. I thought you'd pulled off a cracking signing last summer, Its just a shame he appears to have had a rather over inflated reputation whilst at Madrid and is in fact languid. Just think its not the same playing for Arsenal as it is for Real Madrid. Frankly Di Maria runs alot and gives the ball away alot, like in the world cup. The £60m is cause Real knew they had ManU over a barrel and could ask for almost as much as they thought they could get away with.
When Ozil went to Arsenal I said he was a good player but not the player that Arsenal needed. I believe that I have been proved - apart from 1 thing! Ozil is not as good a player as I believed him to be. What happens with Di Maria, we will have to wait and see. However the omens don't look good for a glorious marriage. At United he will not find the same degree of quality across the pitch. He will certainly find some large egos that are under-performing. He will certainly find a bankrupt team spirit. Finally he will find a very desperate manager. He has already said that he didn't want to leave Real and therefore I would be surprised to see him give total commitment to leading the side back to the top level.
Some very worried sounding hope being posted on here tonight. Di Maria has shown some class (in my view) in letting the Madrid fans know he didn`t desert the club but was pushed out to fund the James transfer. Most of the Madrid players were gutted to see Ozil sold for the same reason (to fund Bale). I expect both players (Ozil and di Maria) to perform well this season though Ozil may be the most settled.
Meh, who's worried? It's just interesting to see where things go. No-one can predict the future, but it's fascinating to see how many people are psychologically addicted to the status quo. Because Utd have been up at the top for so long, many supporters and pundits seem incapable of grasping the idea that it isn't set in stone, and they don't have some sort of God-given right to be there. I'm not clairvoyant, so I'm not going to predict that Utd are facing a protracted spell in the doldrums, but it's nowhere near as outrageous an idea as many seem to think.
