He needs to play in the center or on the left. The problem is both that he hasn’t looked as good as Chadli or Eriksen there, and Pochettino is convinced, despite the evidence of his eyes, that he can play on the right. He can’t. He gets the ball, cuts in and creates a clump of players. There’s no question he’s talented, though. From here on in he should spell Eriksen in the center, I think. Let him play against tired players, and hopefully score and get some confidence. Lennon and Townsend are our only decent options on the right.

....and now Soldado says he's embarrassed by his performances.Well, perhaps he needs a kick butt coach or a psychiatrist...or both!

I'm not excusing him but it's a lot easier to settle and do well when you're in a side that's playing well. Look at Fellaini, he was great at Everton when they were in form but rubbish last season at United and now he's starting to look a good player again. Players that play well regardless of the rest of the team are hard to come by.

Surprisingly, Lamela is second on the team (to Kane) this year in combined goals and assists in all competitions, with 11 (4 goals and 7 assists).

Will this be the spark for Lamela to really raise his PL game ??

I doubt it, you can bet Leicester will be spending their time working out how they're going to double up on him with the first man showing him down the line. He and Walker haven't looked much of a partnership in the past but there were early signs that they might yet begin to compliment eachother's games. I'd back Walker as the more likely to make an impact against Leicester and if he does that then we'll be perfectly placed to take advantage of United's rickety wingback system.

I’m not sure he has to really raise his game. He just needs to make decisions better in the middle of the field. We bought him to be a match winner, and he’s been winning matches, allbeit more often in the cups. He has one distressing habit, which is to dribble into clumps of players when everyone else has for the most part learned to pass to the open man. But even so, he comes out the other side with the ball often enough it’s somewhat understandable. Second in the team in combined goals and assists in all comps, and first in assists, is doing fine.

He has been responsible for conceding several goals as well. Also concedes posession a fair bit, and drifts out of games for long periods.

We brought him in to be a star player, and he is not a star player.

He's 22. Bale's one of the best players we've ever had and even he took until he was 23 to show what he can do on a consistent basis. The fact that Lamela has been involved in so many goals is a positive sign. If you want to be negative about him that's fine but give the rest of us a break, we get that you don't rate him.

See burnley's goal, he lost the ball trying a fancy flick. good goal yesterday but his overall play still wasn't good enough for a £30 million player

Is he worth 30 million now? No.
Will he be worth 30 million in 2-3 years? Easily. Probably more.

I don't see what people don't get about that :p When Chelsea signed Hazard, were they expecting instant success? They didn't put pressure on him and now look at what they have. Lamela is the same. He will only get better, and that's why we need to give him games instead of letting him rot on the bench, even if he isn't as good as Lennon (who's only going in the other direction over the next few years) and Townsend (who just isn't as good <.<)

Oh, he was in Crook's team of the week and the guy was only negative about him, whereas he made John O'Shea out to be the second coming.

"Not a bad way to open your Premier League account but frankly a player with Erik Lamela's talent should be scoring more goals than the occasional one or two. "
