Oi i live in boro (well just south of it), but i certainly dont make it easy on myself. Lived in Blyth for 30 years, surrounded by Mags Moved to Boro 8 years ago, and surrounded by... Mags Honestly there are 5 mag supporters around me who wear their strips, I very rarely see a Boro Strip around here, there are ppl who support them, but its more hush hush down here.
No offence intended Steve I watched the football league show on Saturday and couldn't believe how empty the Smoggies stadium was for their home game against Coventry. I swear there was less than 10k fans in there.
Anton knows he is not a first choice under Bruce, Bruce has continually wanted to sell him, Now he is into the last year of his contract, can't blame the lad really. He knows once the rest are fit Bruce wont play him. The bad thing about all of this is I think he could easily be the club's best left back. If we get 4 million for him in the last year of his contract it's good business. Then again thinking about it QPR are splashing the cash and desperate (like we were under Keane) so some over the odds buys for our players is justice. If we've chucked him away for a mil then we are poor at business. especially to a relegation rival.
mags = newcastle = magpies, the thieving little ****s of Birds is their nickname Blackcats = Sunderland Smoggies = Boro, even though most of the steelworks is actually in Redcar, but the smoke off them goes over Boro and when you go down the A19 from Newcastle/Sunderland the smog is the first thing you see. hence smoggies All are Derbies, but the Tyne/Wear Derby is the biggest of the 3, only 12 miles seperating Newcastle/Sunderland, and then about 40 miles from those down to Boro.
Mags (short for Magpies) are from Newcastle. Smoggies are Middleborough fans, so called because of the chemical industry in the area causing a smog over the town.
Thanks for the clarification chaps. I should've copped the Mags one! I'm a Dubliner who happens to support QPR but I've a mate who was born and raised just around the corner from Ayresome Park. I'll have to give him the Smoggies jibe. Cheers lads, besta luck for the season.
The timing of Ferdinand leaving (if he does) is so ironic as he's had his best spell for us by far. However, he is a very limited player - he often wets himself when he's in possession and like many other posters have said - he is liable to do summat donkyish during the game. However, of late he has cut that out and actually looked quite solid. He does have a great attitude and he is definately an 100% grafter. At the end of the day Keane was a pillock to pay £8million for him - I think anything we get for him is good business for us if he is sold.
3 years of error-prone inconsistency 3 decent games this season. Players in the last season of their contract don't command big transfer fees. If Bruce is serious about Laing breaking through this season then we are right to make the wage saving and get a fee for a player who will be worthless soon IMO
Tbh, i've never rated Ferdinand at all. He's been very good this season, MOTM against Swansea IMO, but he's just not that good, is he? Plus, he's on a Roy Keane contract, and we all know about those! I don't think Turner and Bramble will be happy sitting on the bench forever, so something has to give. Money into the pot and frees up some wages to bring in attacking players.
This echo's my thoughts on him. Would also throw in the emergence of Laing as an option at CB into the equation.
