What's the problem Grizzly. Poker till 6am, sprightly walk over to the sports area. Order fresh beer. Game on.

    My ante posts are

Peddlers Arkle 14's to 6's. £10 each way every time I've had a winning bet since Cheltenham last season.
First Lieutenant 14's to 10's - same as the Peddlers bet stopped when he burst a blood vessel.

Grand Crus RSA 10's - Saver
Sprinter Sacre Arkle 12's - Saver

I'm at an age where I need at least some sleep - blackjack till 3am with free drinks all night and I need some shut-eye, plus the missus will have some Grand Canyon or horseriding excursion lined up at 8am.

Seriously though, at the Palazzo they have private screens for each table and if you want to see Ludlow and Sedgefield they'll put it on your TV - you might struggle to get it on the main 40 foot plasma though....

It's the way forward, deffo. Imagine a huge bar in every major city centre in the UK with betting facilities and showing all the racing. They'd make an absolute fortune <ok>

Can't recommend it highly enough - and if that's all you're taking on the plane with you you're in for an unbelievable time, it only starts getting difficult when the wife's in tow.....

bayern - only need one of those.
You get free toothbrushes on the plane and if you find time to use your i-pod whilst there then you won't be doing it right....

Either you don't win much or that's looking like a real stormer for you. I'm impressed at your confidence!

My anteposts are fairly small at this stage:

Champion Hurdle: Hurricane Fly 2-1 NRNB
Champion Chase: Finians Rainbow 8-1 EW

Do we want to incorporate a 5 point recommendation scale?

How would you suggest it work?

    All suggestions welcome.

Peddlers ~ 5 points plus several times over.
First Lieutenant ~ same as Peddlers ~ wish I could have a few of those back!

    Grand Crus ~ 2 pts
    Sprinter Sacre ~ 2 pts

Personally don't see the point of a points system if there's no monetary value attached to a point. For me a point is £20 and I usually operate a half point system when I bet.

The reason I haven't integrated a point system as of yet was because I didn't really want it to be competition-esque.

The original intention was simply to be an ante-post tracker, if you like.

That said, a points system is useful in indicating the strength of the bet you have placed, and suggests how strongly you believe in a bet. Although again, it starts to represent monetary prowess if we aren't careful, which is something I'm keen to avoid.

I was hoping that by the end of the festival, you could review the thread and learn a bit about the benefits and problems of antepost betting.

I can defnitely incorporate a system, but could do with a bit of advice and indeed some opinion on whether it is worthwhile.

My input would be that my 1point is comparatively tiny compared to some others on here so just because I'm very keen on a horse and stick up 5 points I wouldn't then want anyone betting proper money wasting their hard earned because I've read a race wrong. I know that's very unlikely to happen as I seldom post on here (I post under quelesprit on fugues) but people will follow Nass, RV, Toppy etc on here and I'm sure they'd have a similar attack of the conscience.

Having said that if someone stuck up a winner of any race would we offer less congratulations because they only had one point and not five?

Why not go for confidence level rather than stake.

    1pt - speculative
    2pt - confident
    3pt - very confident
    4pt - think its a sure thing

Hurricane Fly - Champ Hurdle 4 pts. Won easily enough last year having raced a bit keen early. But having been at Punchestown to witness his demolition of Binocular et al I've no doubt this one is a champion. The risk is him not getting there but I seem to remember similar nonsense in the run up last year so I'm not overly concerned (yet!).
Peddlers Cross - Arkle - 2pts Keeping the faith despite his recent reverse.
Captain Chris - Champ Chase 2 pts bet but nil confidence of a return.
Usually go Wednesday but circumstances dictate Tuesday visit this year - can't wait!

Ladbrokes have taken the fear away about HF turning up. If he runs, he wins for me. No way will W Mullins take a risk on him. Another one for the list, My Flora for the
    Foxhunters at 14/1.
