Maybe I'm wrong bob butI thought he had a chance to put his name on the dotted line with Newcastle when he signed for us , not 100 % sure though . I remember I was a little miffed at the time as I thought he was playing one team against the other .
Whilst not Scottish,per se,a certain Jason Scotland came South and didn't do too badly.
Likewise,Stephen Dobbie,although he didn't have the same level of success as Jason.
But he scored a real "junk" goal at Wembley,against Reading,oh and that pass to Sinclair was pure junk.
Oh and Denis Law was junk, eh?
I don't think Newcastle were interested until he'd been with us a season (Villa was also being mentioned) but many considered that agent / player talk to improve his contract as we were moving into the Premier League. There wasn't a huge public clamour for his signature on Tyneside. Speculation about a move was starting as early as January and came to a head in the Summer of 2011. At the time he took a good deal of flack and was considered by many as ungrateful and not wholly committed to Swansea. Coming from a lowly Wrexham (possibly with some Brian Flynn influence - managing Wales under 21s at the time and a fan of the way Swansea were playing) his contract wouldn't have been extravagant by any stretch of the imagination.
But there again who really knows what goes on in the background?
No player who gets linked with any team has been picked at random. he has been watched and impressed to be considered worthy of a mention of a possibility of joining the club...nobody on here can say if he is good enough or not as how the hell would we know,,
