Would probably make a good non-race weekend thread. I think Raikkonen and Alonso hit their peaks after Schumacher's championship winning years, not during them. I would say Schumacher's competition came from Hill, Villeneuve, Hakkinen and Coulthard. No way were Barrichello or Irvine competition for him. I think Webber is competition for Vettel, to a degree.
I would say that Vettel is having to deal with a higher number of quality drivers in one year than schumacher ever had to compete with in one year.
Normally schumacher would have one or two of real competition to him, but vettel has got Hamilton, Button, Webber, Alonso and Massa, so therefore he has got more to deal with in one season, not saying that Schumacher is bad at dealing with pressure as I am not saying that.
Schumcher won 5 world titles in a row (7 overall), Seb has 1, its waaaaaaaay too soon to put him in the same light as a legend!!!
just because everyone is racing on a more even field and the racing is more tense doesn't mean they are better. Its the same as people constantly accusing Barcelona's opponents as having bad games, no Barcelona make them have bad games. Schumacher didn't come up against any lesser breed of racer, he made them look lesser.
Not entirely. This is a popular phrase which is often over-used as a clever quip, since it is difficult to refute with logical proofs. However, the dispassionate will agree that some things are entirely out of a driver's hands, as was the case with Button on Sunday. I hasten to add that I am not interested in participating in the tribalism which has been going on recently. I am not a fan of any particular driver. But if there is such a thing as 'luck' (the occurence of events out of one's domain of control), Button did indeed experience 'bad luck' and on Sunday, it appeared to be much more 'bad luck' than any other driver by a considerable margin!
At risk of a torrent of miffed fans - I do remember MSC getting quite a lot of 'help' from his assistant, I mean team-mates. Plus it was often clear that he had a better car (intentionally) to ensure he couldn't be beaten. Then taking into account stewards, FIA and his tactics he certainly didn't deserve all his WCs. There, I feel better for that.
