brb - I know you forecast 76 points ( in my opinion a modest sum for a play off place ) - but it would interest me ( & hopefully others - for discussion) to know your forecast for the individual remaining games. I fear that we will probably need to overachieve any expectation against Cheltenham and Crawley owing to our injuries & suspensions - we also have tough matches vs Oxford ( who are probably the only team that we might overtake ) & Swindon. I find it difficult to believe that we can get another 22 points from our remaining 11 games. That would be 7 wins and a draw. We mustn't forget that Bradford and Northampton (away) will be tricky - and Morcambe (home) are not far behind us -and may hope to get in the play offs. I am struggling to see that we can win a minimum of 7 games.
Its gonna be tight 73 points might be enough . I dont think we will make it we have been too inconsistant this season. We will probably win a game we dont expect and then lose two we should win.. Gotta say though for attacking play i reckon its the best season since the Peacock era
Yes, I will come back with those predictions once I have worked out my calculated error of losing the Gills a point, 54 not 53
Ok, now I have sorted out that minor over sight of a missing point gained, also an additional point adrift under target. A - Cheltenham - 1 point H - Crawley - 3 points A - Bradford - 0 points A - Burton - 1 point H - Macclesfield - 3 points A - Bristol Rovers - 0 points H - Dag & Red - 3 points A - Oxford - 3 points (we have a good record at Oxford I believe) H - Swindon - 1 point A - Northampton - 0 points H - Morecambe - 3 points = 18 points + 54 points + -4 points 76 points. Anyone else want to have a go at the run in points tally... ps. just for the stats, we have played 36 times against Oxford, only ever losing a total of seven times and only four times at their place, since 1933/34.
Thanks for the details. I am sure there will be a few twists & turns to come and the rule book may be thrown out of the window -but on paper I feel that we will get a ' different ' 18 points to your forecast. Unfortunately that is a total of only 72, and not enough. It would need a spectacular run in to get anything better - and I'm afraid that we have given away too many stupid goals. However the form of the youngsters has been an unexpected revelation and bodes well for a better 'go' next year.
alwaysright - at the beginning of this thread, there was a table I posted, that has got a bit lost now as the thread goes on but it indicates 72 points has always been enough for the playoffs accept for one season. Now obviously I am four points off forecast for my 76 (not bad considering), however, 72 points may be enough and another 18 points is no more difficult for us than it is for anyone else challenging for seventh place. Even if we lose Saturday, come 5pm there is only one team that can go above us and that is Crewe and they have played one game more. An interesting fixture on Tuesday from where we are concerned is Rotherham v Torquay, with Rotherham being 4 points off us and the only other real outside threat at this moment in time. ps. guess who Crewe have got at home Saturday - lol
brb -I saw the table. I hope 72 points might be enough. I am worried about the goals conceded( almost as bad as a -1 point.) ( you'll tell me that if we can match the goal difference of, say Oxford, then our superior goals scored could be a factor.)
No, you are quite (always) right to be worried, a bad goal difference is as bad as a -1 point and will cost you so come that final game.
A - Cheltenham - 0 points H - Crawley - 1 points A - Bradford - 0 points A - Burton - 1 point H - Macclesfield - 3 points A - Bristol Rovers - 0 points H - Dag & Red - 3 points A - Oxford - 0 points H - Swindon - 1 point A - Northampton - 1 point H - Morecambe - 3 points 67 points me thinks.....lets start planning for next year
I remember a cup game in the eightees when I went up there with my dad and we got tanked 6 1. I think Aldridge bagged four. Mind you I think they were division one then! I am off to work on my points tally again but I think about 71
Yes, that was in 1986/87 when we lost at their place in the League Cup 6-0, highest ever score between the two sides. That was one of only four defeats we have ever suffered at their place. Probably revenge for the previous meeting between the two sides in 1983/84, when I travelled to watch the Gills at the Manor Ground. Oxford eventually went up as Champions but suffered there ONLY home defeat of the season against us 0-1 - we snatched a very early goal then held on for dear life. IMO we have always been a bit of a bogey side for Oxford, even when they have shown the form that they are at the moment.
A - Cheltenham - 0 point H - Crawley - 1points A - Bradford - 1 points A - Burton - 1 point H - Macclesfield - 3 points A - Bristol Rovers - 1points H - Dag & Red - 3 points A - Oxford - 0 points H - Swindon - 0 points A - Northampton - 3 points H - Morecambe - 3 points 16 more points this season is all I think we'll get, which will be tight for play offs
69 points i reckon, which would have been enough last season and our promotion season, but I cant see oxford getting less than 70.
Anyway its not a case of we need 76,73 or soixante neuf points ! We need one more point than the team that would finish seventh. Currently that is Oxford and there is only one point in it. So all to play for then !!! Faith restored
You need to convince quite a few on the Cheltenham game prediction thread. I posted earlier saying that Oxford are the only team that we can realistically overtake - but I fear there are too many other variables beyond our control that will make the achievement a bit too much. je suis toujours droit !
