With regards the post you quoted I don't think it makes a difference. I think after the run of games we've had with no replacements available for key players (McKenna, Rosenior, Koren) they're too physically drained to be able to do much of anything. Plus if you remember Dudgeon was dropped for Dawson partly because he was feeling the strain of playing so many games in his first full season. That was in November/December time when we'd had nothing like the run we're in now. Chester, Evans, Brady, and Stewart (as he's back from injury) are effectively in the same position and we've been expecting them to play pretty much every week. I know Brady/Stewart have had a bit of rotation, and rests through injury but they've still played a lot of games this month.

I'll answer the question you asked seperately though. I don't know how broken down it's got, but I can't believe Fryatt is happy playing as a lone striker. I also can't see McLean being happy playing mainly on the wing, when if we're playing a lone striker he's better for the role than Fryatt due to his increased mobility/pace. You've then got Simpson who was told he'd be given a chance getting about 30 seconds in the space of almost 3 months (before Pompey). We've got 3 experianced* strikers and Cullen in the squad, I can't see any of the 3 being happy with the tactics being used.

It's quite easy to see that situation causing the players to decide they've had enough of Barmby if they keep asking him to play two up front (Fryatt asking for a partner, the other two asking to be the partner) and he keeps saying no even though the system cleary doesn't work for them. Whether it's got that far already or not is a different question, but we're probably seeing the signs of it with Fryatt now hinting at it publically and Barmby sniping at him. It might be the case that if he started playing two of them together, or got the wingers to support Fryatt instead of hiding behind the full backs it would solve the problem and the tensions would be gone.

*in Simpson's case I mean he's played for a team at this level regularly and scoring goals for them rather than over a prolonged period

Garcia has the experiance of promotion with Colchester as well, I know it's from L1 but as it was a small club even at that level it still offers some of the 'holding your nerve' factor against bigger/"better" sides.
