    Wasn't he Edward the Animal Buggerer?

    Anyway, he's dead now so we can sit on the fence about the current crop of royals. Maybe we should apply for a name change to Ex-Kingston, or drop the Hull and just be Kingston. Hey, wouldn't it look nicer with a number, like Kingston 1197 (or some relevant number)

    Edward, or Longshanks as was his late 13th century nomenclature, needed a stronghold on the north sea coast to supply his troops in his fight against the rebelling Scots.
    Hull was chosen as that location and was renamed to reflect it's Royal connection.

    All turned to **** anyway when Edward died on 1307 and his son Edward II lost Scotland to Robert the Bruce*.

    Just thought I'd mention that to keep it on a football topic.......:smile:

    Hopefully they'll call it Etheldred or Æthelstan.

    Or Cnut and hope that there's at least one dyslexic newsreader out there.
